Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) Restricted for Bridge Replacement Project in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays on Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Route 563 (Ridge Road) and Geryville Pike in Upper Salford and Marlborough townships, Montgomery County, on Monday, January 14, through Thursday, January 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for tree clearing operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The work is part of a project to replace three poor condition bridges carrying Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) over Unami Creek, Ridge Valley Creek and the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek.

On Wednesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 17, lane restrictions with flagging will also be in place on Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Route 563 (Ridge Road) and Thompson Road as an extension of the tree clearing operations mentioned above.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) is expected to be closed and detoured in May 2019 during the construction of the Unami Creek and Ridge Valley Creek bridges.  Work is planned on both bridges simultaneously to minimize impacts to traffic.

The Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) bridge over East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek will remain open during construction as the bridge will be built in stages using half-width construction which is expected to begin in March 2019.

H & K Group, Inc., of Skippack, PA is the general contractor on the $9,565,527 project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

The entire project is expected to be completed in spring of 2021.
