PennDOT Reopens Johnson Highway Bridge over Sawmill Run Creek in East Norriton Township, Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has reopened the bridge carrying Johnson Highway over a branch of Sawmill Run Creek in East Norriton Township, Montgomery County, following the completion of a bridge rehabilitation project.

PennDOT's contractor removed the existing superstructure and installed a new bridge deck, barrier and sidewalk; performed scour rock and stream repair; and paved bridge approaches.

Built in 1924, and reconstructed in 1966, the single-span bridge is 28 feet long and 55 feet wide. The structure carries an average of 9,096 vehicles a day.

The rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Johnson Highway over a branch of Sawmill Run Creek is part of PennDOT's $6.8 million project to rehabilitate six poor condition bridges in Bucks and Montgomery counties, three structurally-deficient culverts in Bucks County, and to stabilize a stream embankment at a bridge in Bucks County.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on this project that is financed with 100 percent state funds through Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
