U.S. 1, Street Road (Route 132) Lane and Ramp Closures at Night Next Week for Construction in Bensalem

King of Prussia, PA – Travel restrictions will be in place at night next week on U.S.1, Street Road (Route 132), and two U.S. 1 ramps at the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Bensalem Interchange for roadway, bridge and utility construction under a project to reconstruct, widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of the highway in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule and locations are:
  • Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic northbound and southbound lane closures will be in place on U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway for roadway and bridge construction;
  • Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic westbound lane closures will be in place on Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way for roadway and bridge construction;
  • Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to a single lane between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way for installation of a natural gas line. In addition, a short-term closure of the ramp from southbound U.S.1 to eastbound Street Road (Route 132) may occur as utility installation progresses through that location. If the ramp is closed, motorists will be directed to continue south on U.S. 1, right at Old Lincoln Highway, and right on eastbound Street Road (Route 132); and
  • Wednesday, September 4, and Thursday, September 5, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Bensalem Interchange to northbound U.S. 1, and the ramp from northbound U.S. 1 to the Turnpike's Bensalem Interchange will be closed for beam setting on the new U.S. 1 bridge over the ramp.
During the Turnpike ramp closures, northbound U.S. 1 motorists will be detoured to the Neshaminy Exit, left on Rockhill Drive, right on the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, and right on the ramp to the Turnpike Toll Plaza.

Turnpike motorists exiting at Bensalem and heading for northbound U.S. 1 will be detoured to the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, right onto the ramp to eastbound Street Road (Route 132),and left at the temporary traffic signal at the ramp to northbound U.S. 1.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

The work is part of a corridor improvement project, and the first of three construction contracts, to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
