Girard Avenue Lane Restrictions Scheduled for Repair and Resurfacing
Operations in Philadelphia

Overnight and daytime lane restrictions are scheduled next week on Girard
Avenue as part of a project to repair and resurface 16.5 miles of state
highway
in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)
announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Thursday, April 5, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane restrictions are
scheduled
on Girard Avenue between Broad Street (Route 611) and 33rd Street, for
milling;
and
• Friday, April 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled
on
Girard Avenue between Broad Street (Route 611) and 33rd Street, for
resurfacing
operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work

zones because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's
schedule is dependent on the weather.

State highways completed under this resurfacing project include:

• Walnut Street between Broad Street (Route 611) and Front Street;
• Chestnut Street between 22nd Street and 21st Street;
• Vine Street in both directions between 18th Street and 7th Street;
• Girard Avenue between Susquehanna Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611);
• Ridge Avenue between U.S. 13 (33rd Street) and Spring Garden Street; and
• Pennsylvania Avenue/Spring Garden Street between 26th Street and Delaware

Avenue.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway
surface
and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will
seal
the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

In addition, crews have completed crack sealing operations at the following

locations:

• Interstate 76 between the 30th Street and Spring Garden Street
interchanges;
• Roberts Avenue between Henry Avenue and Germantown Avenue;
• Rhawn Street between U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and State Road;
• Interstate 95 between the Delaware County line and the I-95 Girard Point
Bridge;
• Passyunk Avenue between Essington Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611);
• Frankford Avenue between Torresdale Avenue and Robbins Street; and
• B Street between Allegheny Avenue and Erie Avenue.

James J. Anderson Construction Co., Inc., of Philadelphia, is the general
contractor on the $7,136,316 project which is financed with 100 percent
state
funds.
