Daytime and Nighttime Travel Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Resurfacing Operations in Philadelphia

​King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter travel restrictions next week on three state highways on Monday, October 22, through Friday, October 26, as part of a project to repair and resurface 15 miles of state highway in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• 5th Street between Walnut Street and Race Street, a lane closure is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, for milling operations;
• 26th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Girard Avenue, a lane closure is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, for milling operations; and
• 29th Street between Girard Avenue and U.S. 13 (West Hunting Park Avenue), a lane closure is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM for paving operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

State highway completed under this resurfacing project include:

• Washington Lane between Chew Avenue and Route 309 (Cheltenham Avenue);
• Lincoln Drive between West Cliveden Street and West Allens Lane; and
• Philmont Avenue between Byberry Road and the Bucks County line.

State highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:

• Walnut Street (Route 3) between 24th Street and South Broad Street (Route 611);
• Dauphin Street between Ridge Avenue and Aramingo Avenue;
• 65th Street between Kingsessing Avenue and Passyunk Avenue; and
• The ramp from Front Street to southbound Interstate 95.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill the existing roadway surface and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Tony DePaul and Son of Flourtown, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $6,754,325 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in December 2018.
