I-76 Closures, Lane Restrictions Overnight Next Week for Viaduct Construction Near 30th Street in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound and westbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to a single lane and then closed at night next week between the 30th Street and South Street interchanges in Philadelphia for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, eastbound and westbound I-76 will be reduced from two-lanes-to-one, then closed completely from 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM the following morning between the 30th Street and South Street interchanges.

During the overnight eastbound closures, eastbound I-76 traffic will exit at 30th Street and follow 30th Street to Chestnut Street, then left on Chestnut Street and right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

During the overnight westbound closures, westbound I-76 traffic will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue back to the ramps to westbound I-76 or eastbound Interstate 676.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on I-76 near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled closures are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

The lane and ramp closures will allow crews to continue repairs, deck construction and painting on two sections of the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct over I-76.

The work is part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
