I-95 South Ramp, Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Southbound Reconstruction at Girard Avenue

King of Prussia, PA - The southbound Interstate 95 off and on-ramps at the Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia will be closed Monday, October 8, through Friday, October 12, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for adjustments to the construction barrier for a new southbound traffic pattern that is scheduled to be implemented this weekend for the start of southbound demolition and reconstruction at the interchange, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

PennDOT expects its contractor to complete the pattern setup and shift three lanes of southbound vehicles onto the rebuilt northbound side of I-95 by early Saturday, October 6 before beginning three-plus years of demolition and reconstruction of the southbound viaduct at Girard Avenue.

During the ramp closures next week, southbound motorists normally exiting at Girard Avenue will be directed continue on southbound I-95, exit at Callowhill Street and then turn left on Delaware Avenue to access Girard Avenue.

Drivers normally using on-ramp to southbound I-95 from southbound Aramingo Avenue at the Girard Avenue Interchange will be directed to remain on Aramingo Avenue, turn right on Delaware Avenue, right on Callowhill Street, left on Front Street, then left on Market Street to reach the ramp to southbound I-95.

In addition, southbound I-95 will be reduced from three lanes-to-two between the Girard Avenue and Interstate 676 interchanges on Thursday, October 11, and Friday, October 12, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for adjustments to the construction barrier.

Drivers are advised to avoid I-95 during the planned operations or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled operations are weather permitting and subject to change.

The work is part of the $312 million GR4 contract to reconstruct I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and the Girard Avenue interchanges.
