Wolf Administration Announces Completion of Major Improvement Project to Reconstruct 1.2 Miles of U.S. 422 in Pottstown Area

King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that major construction is complete on a project to improve and reconstruct 1.2 miles of U.S. 422 from just east of the Schuylkill River bridge to just west of the Montgomery County line in North Coventry Township, Chester County, West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, and Douglass Township, Berks County.

"The completion of this project marks another milestone for PennDOT and its mission to reconstruct seven miles of U.S. 422 in Chester and Montgomery counties," Governor Tom Wolf said.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor reconstructed U.S. 422 on both existing and new alignments; reconfigured the U.S. 422/Stowe Interchange to a diamond configuration; removed and replaced the existing ramps and culverts; installed new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, message boards, signing, pavement markings, lighting, concrete median barriers, median glare screens and guide rail; upgraded stormwater management facilities and pipes; and constructed and restored wetlands.

While major construction on the project has been completed, the contractor will be performing various post-construction "punch list" activities through the end of the year that may impact U.S. 422 motorists.

H & K Group, Inc. of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $35,623,017 project which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.

This improvement project is the third of six mainline U.S. 422 projects to be completed under PennDOT's multi-phase program to rebuild and improve seven miles of the expressway between the Berks County line and the Sanatoga Interchange.  For more information on the U.S. 422 program, visit www.422improvements.com.
