County to Remain Closed for Steel Beam Repairs

2/17/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The bridge carrying Blueball Avenue over Interstate 95 in Upper Chichester
Township, Delaware County, will remain closed for repairs through
mid-August
after damage was sustained this week to two steel beams during a water main

improvement project performed by a contractor for the Chester Water
Authority,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

The bridge had been closed to vehicular traffic since December 27, 2016,
and
was scheduled to reopen Friday, February 24, following the completion of
the
water main installation.

During the six-month closure, Blueball Avenue motorists will continue to be

detoured over Columbia Avenue and Chichester Avenue. Local access will be
maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow
extra
time when traveling through the area.

The four-span, steel girder bridge carrying Blueball Avenue over I-95 was
originally built in 1968. The bridge is 240 feet long and 52 feet wide and
carries an average of 3,030 vehicles a day. The bridge was last inspected
in
June 2016.
