U.S. 422 and Route 23 Nighttime Travel Restrictions Next Week in Valley
Forge Area for Bridge Work

Eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter nighttime lane
closures between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and First Avenue interchanges
in
West Norriton and Upper Merion townships, Montgomery County, on Monday,
February 13, through Friday, February 17, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, for the
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) bridge demolition, the Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. In addition to the lane closures,

there will be periodic traffic stoppages scheduled on U.S. 422 in both
directions after midnight.

Nighttime lane closure will also be in place on Route 23 (Valley Forge
Road)
between Moore Road and Gulph Road in West Norriton and Upper Merion
townships,
on Monday, February 13, through Friday, February 17, from 8:00 PM to 6:00
AM,
for bridge beam removal. Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

PennDOT advises drivers to allow additional time for travel on U.S. 422 and

Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) near the construction areas because backups
will
occur. The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges
to
improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River,
Norfolk
Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West
Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project includes

improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its
interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper
Road),
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction
began
in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds.
