NWS Weather Briefing 3/12/2017 AM

Attached is a weather briefing from the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ regarding a coastal storm that is expected to affect the region Monday night (March 13th) through Wednesday morning (March 15th)  

Hazards with this storm include accumulating snow, coastal flooding, and strong winds. At the current time we are forecasted for 8-12 inches of snow over the entire county. The storm total snow graphic includes Monday evening through Tuesday night.

Key Updates:

·         Slightly decreased snow total possible for northern and northwestern Chester County

·        Confidence in snow occurring is upgraded to HIGH, snow amounts are still with a low to medium confidence.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

·        Anticipated Timing: Snow starting Monday night mainly after 9 pm, snow will continue Monday Night and during the day on Tuesday.  Snow is forecasted main before 7 pm on Tuesday but there will remain a chance of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.  

·        Temperatures: 

  • Monday high of 38 and a low of 26
  • Tuesday high of 34 and a low of 24
  • Wednesday high of 31

·        Wind: Monday night from East 7 – 13 mph and Tuesday winds Northeast 13 - 16 mph


Precipitation: Snow starting Monday night mainly after 9 pm, snow will continue during the day on Tuesday.  Snow is forecasted mainly before 8 pm on Tuesday but there will remain a chance of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.
 Some locations may see a brief break in the snow Tuesday afternoon.

      Active watches & warnings: Hazardous Weather OutlookWinter Storm Watch March 13th, 8:00 PM until March 14th 8:00 PM

Impacts:

  • ·        Accumulating snow Monday night into Tuesday night.
  • ·        There could be major impacts to travel especially late Monday night during the day Tuesday.
  • ·        Snow and wind could cause down power lines and possible widespread power outages
  • ·        The heavy snow will make many roads impassable.
  • ·        Strong winds will lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
