Route 63 East Lane Closure Scheduled Next Week for Pipe Replacement in
Abington and Upper Moreland Townships

Eastbound Route 63 (Welsh Road/Moreland Road) motorists will encounter a
single
lane closure between Easton Road and Route 611 (Old York Road) in Abington
and
Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County, on Monday, July 24, through
Wednesday, July 26, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for pipe replacement, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times on westbound Route 63
(Moreland Road/Welsh Road); however, drivers who want to make a left on
Davisville Road should continue west and make a left on Easton Road.

In addition, lane restrictions are scheduled on Route 113 (Harleysville
Pike/Main Street) between Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike/Main Street) and East
Broad
Street/West Broad Street in Lower Salford and Franconia townships, and
Souderton Borough, on Monday, July 24, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for milling
and
paving operations. These restrictions will be in effect through the end of
August.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work

zones because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's
schedule is dependent on the weather.

The work on both roads is part of a project to repair and resurface 20
miles of
state highway in Montgomery County. Additional state highways scheduled for

resurfacing under this contract include:

• Route 113 (Third Avenue/Rahns Road) between Boro Line Road and Route 29
(Gravel Pike) in Trappe Borough and Perkiomen Township; and
• Sandy Hill Road from Fairfield Road to just east of Rolling Hill Drive in

Plymouth Township.

State highways completed under this resurfacing project include:

• Broad Street between Route 63 (Main Street) and Route 309 (Bethlehem
Pike) in
Lansdale Borough and Hatfield Township;
• Troxel Road/Orvilla Road between Sumneytown Pike and Route 63 (Welsh
Road) in
Towamencin Township; and
• Miller Road/Swamp Creek Road between Whites Mill Road/Swamp Creek Road
and
Upper Ridge Road in Marlborough Township.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway
surface
and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will
seal
the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late October.

Glasgow, Inc. of Glenside, PA is the general contractor on the $4,581,098
project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89,
Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.
