I-95 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Traffic Pattern Setup for Southbound Reconstruction at Girard Avenue

King of Prussia, PA - Lane closures will be in place at night next week on northbound and southbound Interstate 95 between the Interstate 676 and Allegheny Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia as crews continue the setup of a new traffic pattern for the $311.6 million southbound reconstruction at the Girard Avenue Interchange that is scheduled to begin later this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

The work schedule is:
  • Monday, September 17, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-three between the I-676 and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for line painting and barrier placement and adjustments;
  • Monday, September 17, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Richmond Street at the Girard Avenue Interchange will be closed during the line striping operation on northbound I-95. Motorists normally using the ramp will be directed to exit at the Allegheny Avenue interchange, turn right onto East Westmoreland Street, right onto Allegheny Avenue and left on Aramingo Avenue back to Richmond Street;
  • Tuesday, September 18, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-two between the I-676 and Girard Avenue interchanges, and from four lanes-to-three between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for line painting and barrier placement and adjustments;
  • Wednesday, September 19, and Thursday, September 20 from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-two between the I-676 and Girard Avenue interchanges for line painting and barrier placement and adjustments; and
  • Thursday, September 20 and Friday, September 21, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound I-95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-two between the Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges for barrier placement and adjustments. 
The traffic shift is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of September 28-30, with demolition of the southbound viaduct set to begin immediately after the traffic shift.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 through the work areas. All scheduled operations are weather dependent.
