PennDOT Fully Reopens Route 29 (Gravel Pike) Bridge over Swamp Creek in
Lower Frederick Township, Montgomery County

11/16/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today reopened the
bridge carrying Route 29 (Gravel Pike) over Swamp Creek to two lanes in
Lower
Frederick Township, Montgomery County.

Construction began May 2, 2016, on the $200,000 project to restore the
structurally deficient bridge. Crews repaired the steel beams and
rehabilitated
the superstructure. The bridge, which had been restricted to a single lane,
is
no longer classified as structurally deficient.

The three-span steel beam bridge was built in 1947. The bridge is 192 feet
long, 38 feet wide and carries an average of 12,138 vehicles a day.

The Route 29 bridge is one of three bridges that PennDOT repaired under a
$6,637,980 bridge improvement project. PennDOT opened the newly
rehabilitated
bridge carrying Aston Mills Road over Chester Creek in Aston Township,
Delaware
County on February 18, 2016, and reopened the bridge carrying Linfield Road

over the Schuylkill River in East Coventry Township, Chester County, and
Limerick Township, Montgomery County, on November 25, 2015, following its
rehabilitation.

J. D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pa., was the general contractor on the
project,
which was financed with 100 percent state funds.
