PennDOT to Improve Broad Street (Route 611) Bridge over U.S. 1 (Roosevelt
Boulevard) in Philadelphia

11/18/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will start construction
Monday,
November 28, on a $400,000 project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying
Broad
Street (Route 611) over U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) in Philadelphia.
Construction on the bridge is scheduled to finish in late January 2017.

PennDOT's contractor will work over the next two months to rehabilitate the

bridge by improving the current drainage system. Crews will install a new
perforated pipe through one of the existing abutments to carry water
directly
into the existing drainage network. A subsurface drainage system will also
be
installed to collect water.

During construction, weekday lane restrictions will be in effect on the
northbound and southbound express lanes on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) at
the
Broad Street (Route 611) Interchange from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Motorists are

advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work zone.

The Broad Street (Route 611) bridge was built in 1961. The single-span
concrete
bridge is 88 feet long, 113 feet wide and carries an average of 31,303
vehicles
a day.

The Broad Street (Route 611) bridge is one of eight bridges in Bucks,
Delaware,
Montgomery and Philadelphia counties that PennDOT is repairing under a
$7,555,555 project financed by Pennsylvania's transportation funding plan,
Act
89.

PennDOT has completed the rehabilitations of the U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike)
bridge
over Martins Creek in Falls Township, Bucks County; Chinquapin Road bridge
over
Iron Works Creek in Northampton Township, Bucks County; Dark Hollow Road
bridge
over Tohickon Creek in Tinicum Township, Bucks County; Route 32 (South Main

Street) bridge over Aquetong Creek in New Hope Borough, Bucks County; and
the
Route 73 (Skippack Pike) bridge over Perkiomen Creek in Perkiomen and
Skippack
townships, and Schwenksville Borough, Montgomery County.

The two remaining bridges that will be repaired under this contract are:

• Bryn Mawr Avenue bridge over Ithan Creek in Radnor Township, Delaware
County;
and
• New Second Street bridge over Tacony Creek in Cheltenham Township,
Montgomery
County.

The entire project is expected to be completed by fall 2017.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
