Route 23 Ramp to U.S. 422 East to Close Beginning Monday for Bridge
Construction in Valley Forge Area

The ramp from Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) to eastbound U.S. 422 in Upper
Merion and West Norriton townships, Montgomery County, will be closed and
detoured beginning Monday, July 10, through late fall for bridge
construction
activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)
announced
today. During construction, Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) motorists will be
directed to use Gulph Road and First Avenue to access the ramp to eastbound

U.S. 422.

In addition to the ramp closure, U.S. 422 and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road)
motorists will encounter lane closures next week. The work schedule, which
is
weather dependent, is:

• Monday, July 10, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures with flagging are

scheduled on Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) between Moore Road and Gulph
Road;
• Tuesday, July 11, through Friday, July 14, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, lane

closures are scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between the Interstate 76 and
First Avenue interchanges; and
• Wednesday, July 12, from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM, the left lane is scheduled
to
close on westbound U.S. 422 between the First Avenue and Route 363 (Trooper

Road) interchanges.

PennDOT advises drivers to allow additional time for travel on Route 23
(Valley
Forge Road) and U.S. 422 and near the construction areas because backups
will
occur.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges
to
improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River,
Norfolk
Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West
Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project includes

improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its
interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper
Road),
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction
began
in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
