Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on U.S. 1 Safety Improvement
Project in Bucks County

The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to
begin
Friday, March 16, on a project to enhance travel and safety on northbound
U.S.
1 through the interchange with U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) and Route 32 in
Falls,
Middletown and Lower Makefield townships, Bucks County. Construction is
expected to be completed this summer.

"This project will help alleviate congestion on a very critical and heavily

relied upon juncture along U.S. 1," Governor Tom Wolf said. "Our work here
in
Bucks County is part of our continuing effort to improve transportation
infrastructure in Pennsylvania."

This project will improve U.S. 1 by providing northbound motorists two
through
lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32, thereby removing the "exit
only"
lane that currently exists for northbound drivers at this interchange. In
addition, a concrete barrier will be placed between U.S. 1 north and the
on-ramp from U.S. 13 to eliminate the substandard weave condition that
currently exists when U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) drivers enter U.S. 1 and weave

through traffic to reach the Route 32 exit ramp.

The scope of work also includes construction of an additional auxiliary
lane
along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road; milling and overlay with a
high-friction surface treatment on U.S. 1 south in the area of Route 32;
and
replacement of overhead signs throughout the project area.

On Friday, March 16, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, northbound U.S. 1 motorists
will
encounter a right lane and permanent shoulder closure between the
Interstate 95
and Oxford Valley interchanges, for temporary barrier placement and
shoulder
widening activities. The shoulder closure will be in effect through
mid-April.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work
zone
because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's schedule
is
weather dependent.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
$2,327,110 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
