U.S. 1, Street Road Closures at Night Next Week for Construction in Bensalem Township

King of Prussia, PA – Lane closures will be in place at night next week in each direction on U.S. 1 and Street Road (Route 132) in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, for construction activities on the project to widen and improve U.S.1 and reconstruct the interchange at Street Road (Route 132), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, March 4, through Friday, March 8, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, northbound and southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to a single lane between Rockhill Road and Old Lincoln Highway, and Street Road (Route 132) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

The lane restrictions will allow crews to remove the northbound U.S. 1 pavement, dismantle overhead signs, install and relocate utilities, and begin reconstruction of the Street Road (Route 132) overpass and three other U.S. 1 structures within the 1.3 mile work area.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent. If any scheduled activities are cancelled due to weather, construction with related lane restrictions may take place from 8:00 PM Saturday, March 9, to 6:00 AM Sunday, March 10.

The first of two years of northbound work, including reconstruction of the Street Road (Route 132) ramps on both sides of the interchange, is currently underway on the $94 million project to widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of U.S. 1 from Old Lincoln Highway, at the Philadelphia border, to north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Bensalem Interchange.

This corridor improvement project is the first of three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
