Route 63, Route 29 Among Several State Highways Restricted Next Week for Construction in Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) will be among several state highways restricted next week for traffic signal installations and tree clearing operations on a project to replace three bridges in poor condition carrying Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) over Unami Creek, Ridge Valley Creek and the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek in Upper Salford, Lower Salford and Marlborough townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Lane restrictions with flagging will occur on Monday, March 25, through Thursday, April 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the following locations for traffic signal installations:
- Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Long Mill Road and Shady Lane in Upper Salford Township;
- Intersection of Perkiomenville Road and Old Skippack Road in Upper Salford Township; and
- Intersection of Route 29 (Gravel Pike), Crusher Road and Upper Ridge Road in Marlborough Township.
Weekday lane restrictions with flagging will also occur on Monday, March 25, through Friday, April 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the following locations for tree clearing operations:
- Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) between Thompson Road and Gerryville Pike in Upper Salford Township; and
- Route 113 (Harleysville Pike) between Sharon Lane and Old Morris Road in Lower Salford Township.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.
Under this improvement project, Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) is expected to be closed and detoured this May 2019 through November for the construction of new bridges over Unami Creek and Ridge Valley Creek. Work is planned on both bridges simultaneously to minimize traffic impacts.
The Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) bridge over the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek will remain open during construction as the bridge will be built in stages using half-width construction. This work is expected to begin this spring and finish in spring 2020.
H & K Group, Inc., of Skippack, PA is the general contractor on the $9,565,527 project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in spring of 2021.
