Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Replace Manoa Road Bridge over Cobbs Creek in Haverford Township
King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin Monday, April 8, to replace the bridge carrying Manoa Road over Cobbs Creek in Haverford Township, Delaware County.
"This is a win-win situation," Governor Tom Wolf said. "We remove another structure from the backlog of poor condition bridges in the state, and the residents of Delaware County gain a new bridge that will serve the area well into the future."
PennDOT's contractor will replace the existing structure with a single span, pre-stressed, concrete bulb-tee bridge and perform other miscellaneous construction, including guide rail repair and drainage system improvements. The new structure will be 41 feet wide and 34 feet long and include nine-foot shoulders.
Due to the nature of construction, Manoa Road will be closed and detoured between Karakung Drive and Powder Mill Lane beginning on Monday, April 8, through late October. During construction, Manoa Road motorists will be detoured over Haverford Road, U.S. 1 (City Avenue/Township Line Road) and Earlington Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
Built in 1929, the current single-span, T-beam bridge carries an average of 5,086 vehicles a day and is posted for 25 tons and 33 tons combination vehicles.
Clearwater Construction, Inc, of Mercer, PA, is the general contractor on this $2,282,490 bridge replacement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
