Daytime Travel Restrictions Next Week on U.S. 422 and Route 23 in Valley
Forge Area for Delivery and Setting of Bridge Beams

Daytime travel restrictions will be in place next week on westbound U.S.
422
between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road)
interchanges in Upper Merion and West Norriton townships, Montgomery
County,
and at the interchange of U.S. 422 and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) for the

delivery and setting of 14 new concrete bridge beams, the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

The operation to lift and set concrete beams for the new bridge under
construction to carry westbound U.S. 422 is associated with PennDOT's $97.4

million project to build new, wider structures to improve travel for U.S.
422
motorists crossing over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad,
South
Trooper Road and the Schuylkill River Trail. The project also includes
improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its
interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper
Road),
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges.

On Monday, October 3, Tuesday, October 4, Thursday, October 6, and Friday,
October 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the far right lane on U.S. 422 west
will be
closed between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper
Road)
interchanges.

In addition, there will be brief, intermittent closures of the U.S. 422
east
off-ramp to Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and traffic stoppages on Route 23
(Valley Forge Road) at the U.S. 422 Interchange when each of the new
158-foot-long concrete beams are delivered. Motorists traveling east on
U.S.
422 during this operation are advised to exit at the First Avenue
Interchange
during times when the off-ramp at Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) is
temporarily
closed. Four beams are scheduled to arrive on Monday, October 3 and
Thursday,
October, 6, and three beams are to arrive on Tuesday, October 4, and
Friday,
October 7.

PennDOT's contractor will set the 14 concrete beams in place shortly after
each
delivery truck arrives and parks on the right lane of the westbound U.S.
422
bridge over the Schuylkill River.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on U.S. 422 and
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) during this operation because slowdowns may occur.
The
contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

PennDOT began construction on this transportation improvement project in
February 2016 and the project is scheduled to finish in May 2020. Without
the
passage of Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan, construction on this

project would not have begun before 2018.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent
state funds.
