Township, Chester County

9/14/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reopened the newly
constructed
Birmingham Road bridge over Radley Run in Birmingham Township, Chester
County,
on Tuesday afternoon, September 13.

The Birmingham Road bridge was closed to motorists since September 22,
2015,
due to severe structural damage. The bridge is located between the
intersections of Lambourne Road and Stoney Run Drive,

Construction began the week of April 11, 2016 to remove the old bridge and
construct a new, cast-in-place concrete structure. The new one-span
structure
is 18 feet long and 24 feet wide. It carries one travel lane in each
direction.

The previous one-span, steel-beam bridge was built in 1938. It was 15 feet
long
and 26 feet wide. The structure was posted with an 18-ton weight limit and
carried an average of 3,553 vehicles a day when it closed.

Loftus Construction, Inc., of Cinnaminson, N.J. was the general contractor
on
the $500,000 project that was financed with 100 state funds.
