U.S. 202 Lane Closures Next Thursday, Friday Nights for Barrier Placement in Chester County
King of Prussia, PA – Nighttime lane closures will be in place next week on U.S. 202 in both directions between the Boot Road and Route 401 interchanges in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester County as crews begin setting up the work zone for the final stage of the project to rehabilitate several bridges and ramps, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Northbound and southbound U.S. 202 will be reduced to a single lane from 9:00 PM Thursday, July 11, to 5:00 AM Friday, July 12, and from 9:00 PM Friday, July 12, to 10:00 AM Saturday, July 13 for barrier placement and other activities to establish a new work zone in the middle of the expressway.
Motorists are advised that backups may occur at times approaching the work zone. The schedule is weather dependent.
The new work zone, which is expected to be in place by mid-July, will place two lanes of southbound traffic back onto the southbound lanes, removing the southbound "express lane" from the northbound side of the expressway. Two lanes of northbound traffic will remain on the northbound side for the final construction stage, which is expected to be in place until this fall.
PennDOT is currently rehabilitating and repainting the structural steel on the Morstein Road overpass and rehabilitating, re-decking and repainting the outside half of the southbound U.S. 202 bridge over Amtrak following completion of repairs to the inner half of the bridge in late 2018. Rehabilitation of the northbound bridge finished in mid-2018.
The work is part of a $26.4 million project to rehabilitate the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass ramp, rehabilitate the Morstein Road overpass, and replace the concrete pavement on the ramps to and from U.S. 202 and U.S. 30/Exton Bypass. The entire project is expected to be completed in the fall.
