Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on Project to Repair and Resurface 18 Miles of State Highway in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 29, on a project to repair and resurface 18 miles of state highway in Philadelphia.
"Improvement projects like this are an important part of investing in the state's infrastructure," Governor Tom Wolf said. "This work in the city of Philadelphia will help increase the safety and efficiency of these critical roadways and help keep them viable for years to come."
Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.
On Monday, July 29, through Friday, August 2, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Upsal Street between Route 309 (Cheltenham Avenue) and Germantown Avenue.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.
Additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:
- Adams Avenue between Rising Sun Avenue and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard);
- Torresdale Avenue between Kensington Avenue and Linden Avenue;
- Levick Street between Route 73 (State Road) and Rising Sun Avenue;
- Linden Avenue between Academy Road and the Interstate 95 Interchange;
- Benjamin Franklin Boulevard between 15th Street and 25th Street;
- Lindbergh Boulevard between 63rd Street and Elmwood Avenue; and
- John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 20th Street and 15th Street.
James J. Anderson Construction Co., Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $7,694,626 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds. Work on the project is expected to be completed in December.
