U.S. 202 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Final Work Zone Set Up in Chester County
King of Prussia, PA – Lane restriction will be in place in both directions on U.S. 202 at night next week as crews complete rehabilitation of the southbound bridge over Amtrak and finish setting up a new work zone in the middle of the highway for the final stage of the $26.4 million project to rehabilitate several bridges and ramps in Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
U.S. 202 will be reduced to one lane northbound and one lane southbound between the Boot Road and Route 401 interchanges in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, on Sunday, July 14, through Friday, July 19, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and until 10:00 AM Saturday, July 20, for barrier placement, line striping and other activities to complete the new median work area. All activities are weather dependent.
The new work zone will place two lanes of southbound traffic back onto the southbound lanes, removing the southbound "express lane" from the northbound side of the expressway. Two lanes of northbound traffic will remain on the northbound side for the final construction stage, which is expected to be in place until this fall.
During the final stage of construction, crews will restore the median and place the final pavement layer on the approaches to both U.S. 202 bridges. Construction on the northbound bridge finished in mid-2018.
Under the current project, PennDOT rehabilitated the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass ramp, plus the Morstein Road overpass, and replaced the concrete pavement on the ramps to and from U.S. 202 and U.S. 30/Exton Bypass. The entire project is expected to be completed in the fall.
Section 3RR, which began in 2017, is the final in a series of Section 300 projects to widen, rebuild and improve the Chester County expressway between the Swedesford Road ramps in Tredyffrin Township and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass in East and West Whiteland townships. Section 300 work began in early 2007.
