I-95 South Lane, Ramp Closure at Night Next Week for Construction at Girard Avenue in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound Interstate 95 in Philadelphia will be reduced from three lanes-to-two between the Girard Avenue and Interstate 676 interchanges on Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for ramp construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During this two-night operation, the on-ramp to southbound I-95 at Aramingo Avenue will also be closed and detoured. Aramingo Avenue traffic heading for southbound I-95 will be directed south on Delaware Avenue to the southbound I-95 on-ramp at Market Street.

The ramp construction is part of the $312 million project to replace the southbound I-95 viaduct between Palmer Street in Fishtown and Ann Street in Port Richmond, part of the reconstruction of 1.5 miles of southbound I-95 between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.

Short-term periodic lane closures will also be in place at several locations on southbound I-95 between I-676 and the Columbus Boulevard exits, and on the southbound I-95 ramps to I-676 and Columbus Boulevard on Monday, October 21, through Thursday, October 24, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for surveying.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The survey operations are part of the engineering activities underway for the upcoming reconstruction of I-95 between Girard Avenue and I-676 that is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2022. More information about the reconstruction of I-95 in Philadelphia is available at www.95revive.com.
