U.S. 1 North Turnpike Ramps Closed at Night Next Week for Bridge Construction in Bensalem

King of Prussia, PA – The northbound U.S. 1 ramps to and from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Plaza at the Bensalem Interchange will be closed and detoured on Monday, October 14, through Thursday, October 17, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction of a new bridge over the ramps in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the closure of the northbound U.S. 1 ramp to the Turnpike, northbound U.S. 1 motorists will be detoured to the Neshaminy Exit, turn left on Rockhill Drive, turn right on the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, then right on the ramp to the Turnpike Toll Plaza.

Turnpike motorists exiting at Bensalem and heading for northbound U.S. 1 will be detoured to the ramp to southbound U.S. 1, turn right onto the ramp to eastbound Street Road (Route 132), then left at the temporary traffic signal at the ramp to northbound U.S. 1.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions will be in place on U.S.1 and Street Road (Route 132) in both directions on Sunday, October 13, through Friday, October 18, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for roadway and bridge construction activities. The work locations are:

  • U.S. 1 in both directions between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway; and
  • Street Road (Route 132) in both directions between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

The work is part of a corridor improvement project, and the first of three construction contracts, to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.
