Line Painting Operations Next Week on I-76, I-476 and U.S. 202

4/22/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is scheduled to
paint
new traffic lines on Interstate 76, Interstate 476 and U.S. 202 in the
Philadelphia region next week.

Weather permitting, the line painting schedule is:

• On Monday, April 25, Wednesday, April 27, Thursday, April 28, and Friday,

April 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, line painting crews will restripe
eastbound
and westbound I-76 between U.S. 202 and Passyunk Avenue in Montgomery
County
and Philadelphia;
• On Monday, April 25, and Tuesday, April 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
crews
will paint U.S. 202 between I-76 and the Delaware state line in Montgomery,

Chester and Delaware counties;
• On Wednesday, April 27, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the slow-moving line
painting operation is scheduled on northbound and southbound I-476 between
the
Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 95 in Montgomery and Delaware
counties; and

Traffic line painting can only be performed when the weather is warm and
dry,
because rain, high humidity or temperatures below 50 dress will increase
the
normal drying time of between 90 and 120 seconds. Paint trucks may also be
rerouted to paint another state highway in the event of excessive traffic
volume or significant delays on the scheduled roadway.

PennDOT line-painting crews use sophisticated equipment that heats the
paint to
about 110 degrees and then sprays the material on the roadway. While the
paint
is still wet, beads made of recycled glass are automatically applied to
provide
reflectivity. PennDOT uses nearly 900,000 pounds of glass beads in
southeastern
Pennsylvania.

PennDOT urges motorists to use caution, stay a considerable distance behind
an
operating paint truck, and do not drive across freshly painted lines.
