U.S. 422 West Lane Closure for Bridge Beam Setting

The right lane on U.S. 422 west will be closed on weekdays over the next
two
weeks between the Sanatoga and Route 724 interchanges in Lower Pottsgrove
Township, Montgomery County, for the placement of 27 concrete beams on the
new
bridge being built over the Schuylkill River, the Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation announced today.

Crews will work from Tuesday, April 12, through Friday, April 15, and from
Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Motorists
are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area as backups
may
occur when westbound U.S. 422 is reduced to one lane during this time.

The upcoming operations are part of PennDOT's $73.3 million project to
rebuild
1.6 miles of U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724 (Schuylkill Road)
interchanges, and construct new bridges over the Schuylkill River and
Norfolk
Southern railroad tracks. Construction on the entire project is scheduled
to
finish in October 2018.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S.
422
structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk
South Railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge
to
the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the
Armand
Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning ramps at
the
U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning
the
ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage;
erecting
three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent
Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
