PennDOT to Reopen Graterford Road Bridge in Perkiomen and Skippack
Townships

Graterford Road will reopen to traffic between Route 29 and Route 73 in
Perkiomen and Skippack townships, Montgomery County, on Friday afternoon,
April
22, following the rehabilitation of the three-span bridge over the
Perkiomen
Creek, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today
announced.

PennDOT's contractor worked the past five months to rehabilitate the former

structurally-deficient bridge by replacing the deck and beams; repairing
the
piers and support abutments; and upgrading the guide rail.

The Graterford Road bridge is no longer categorized as structurally
deficient
following the improvements made under this $1.1 million project, and it is
no
longer posted with a weight restriction.

The Graterford Road bridge was closed in June 2014 due to severe structural

deterioration of the deck and beams. The bridge was posted with a 14-ton
weight
restriction at the time of the closure.

Built in 1957, the bridge is 218 feet long and 26 feet wide. The structure
carried 2,900 vehicles a day prior to its closure.

The rehabilitation of the Graterford Road bridge is part of PennDOT's $6.8
million project to rehabilitate three structurally-deficient bridges in
Bucks
and Montgomery counties, three structurally-deficient culverts in Bucks
County,
and to stabilize a stream embankment at a bridge in Bucks County.

This transportation improvement project is financed with 100 percent state
funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

All work on the project is scheduled to be completed in late 2018. The
general
contractor is Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J.

Following the reopening of Graterford Road, PennDOT will close and begin
construction Monday, April 25, to rehabilitate the structurally-deficient
Route
73 (Skippack Pike) bridge over the Perkiomen Creek in Perkiomen and
Skippack
townships, and Schwenksville Borough, Montgomery County.

The Route 73 (Skippack Pike) bridge will be improved under a $1.1 million
project, which is also financed by Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation
plan.
Construction is scheduled to finish in December 2016.
