U.S. 1, Street Road Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Resurfacing Operations in Chester County

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions next week on U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) and Street Road, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, for resurfacing operations, as part of a project to repair and resurface 41 miles of state highway in Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

  • Street Road between Forge Road and the Upper Oxford Township line in Lower Oxford Township on Monday, April 22, for paving operations; and
  • U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) between Route 896 (Newark Road) and just north of Route 796 (Jennersville Road) in Upper Oxford and Penn townships on Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26, for paving operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

Additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:

  • U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) between the Maryland state line and just south of Hopewell Road/Locust Street in West Nottingham and East Nottingham townships;
  • Route 82 (Union Street/Unionville Road) between Hillendale Road and Cedarcroft Road in Kennett Township and Kennett Square Borough;
  • Route 82 (Doe Run Road/First Avenue) between Strasburg Road and Wagontown Road in Valley and East Fallowfield townships, and the City of Coatesville;
  • Route 82 (Manor Road) between Hibernia Road and Chestnut Street in West Nantmeal and West Brandywine townships and Elverson Borough;
  • Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Welsh Pool Road and just south of Garrison Drive in West Vincent, Uwchlan and Upper Uwchlan townships;
  • Route 352 (Chester Road) between the Delaware County line and Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in Westtown Township;
  • Valley Road between Whitehorse Road and Valley Park Road in Willistown, Tredyffrin and Schuylkill townships; and
  • Baltimore Pike between Barnsley Road and Route 472 (Market Street)/Route 10 (3rd Street) in East Nottingham Township and Oxford Borough.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $9,995,555 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in December 2019.
