Route 100 Lane Closures Scheduled in Chester County

Daylong lane closures will be in place on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) in
Uwchlan
and West Whiteland townships, Chester County, for approximately two weeks
starting Monday, April 4, for the installation of aerial fiber optic lines,
the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

The operation is part of the $17.4 million project to widen Route 100
(Pottstown Pike) to three lanes in each direction from Route 113 (Uwchlan
Avenue) to Swedesford Road/Waterloo Road. The project is scheduled to
finish in
late April.

Over the next two weeks, the northbound right lane will be closed on Route
100
(Pottstown Pike) from Ship Road to Sheree Boulevard. Route 100's
(Pottstown
Pike) southbound right lane will be closed from Marchwood Road to Sunrise
Drive. An additional lane closure also may occur, if needed, weekdays from

9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on Route 100
(Pottstown Pike) during construction. The work schedule is dependent on the

weather.

PennDOT's contractor is nearing completion on the project to improve 2.5
miles
of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike). PennDOT opened the third travel lane in each

direction on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) last November. Additional
improvements
made under this project include the replacement of jug-handle ramps with
turn
lanes; new traffic signals; new concrete median barrier; storm water
collection
system enhancements and new storm water management facilities; a sound wall

along southbound Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Rutgers Drive and
Worthington Drive; a rock slope wall on Gordon Drive; sidewalks along
northbound Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) from Ship Road to Sharp Lane, and
along
southbound Route 100 between Rutgers Drive and Worthington Lane; and a
truck
weigh station on the former northbound Ship Road jug handle.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor
on the $17,386,617 contract, which is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds.

The Route 100 improvement project is a partnership effort between PennDOT
and
Uwchlan Township. PennDOT is financing and managing construction while
Uwchlan
Township financed and performed the preliminary engineering and final
design
phases of the project.
