U.S. 422 Lane Closures Planned the Next Two Weeks for Construction in Pottstown Area

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions over the next two weeks for construction activities on a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:
  • Wednesday, September 5, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the left lane is scheduled to close on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for median construction;
  • Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, alternating left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for milling;
  • Friday, September 7, from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges for barrier removal;
  • Saturday, September 8, from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, alternating left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for paving;
  • Monday, September 10, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, the left lane is scheduled to close on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Armand Hammer Boulevard and Sanatoga interchanges for barrier installation and removal;
  • Tuesday, September 11, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, alternating left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for lane shifts;
  • Wednesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 13, from 7:00 PM to 1:00 PM the following day, the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges for barrier removal; and
  • Friday, September 14, from 7:00 PM to 4:00 PM the following day, the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges for median construction.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 422 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. These operations are weather dependent. 

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S. 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning ramps at the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs. 

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish this fall.
