U.S.1 Among Several State Highways to be Restricted Next Week for Bridge Inspections in Bucks and Philadelphia Counties
King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter travel restrictions on several state highways, including U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge in Bucks and Philadelphia counties, for bridge inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedule is:
- Monday, August 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on State Road between Browns Lane and Haunted Lane in Bristol and Bensalem townships, Bucks County;
- Tuesday, August 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on the eastbound George C. Platt Memorial Bridge (Route 291/Penrose Avenue) in Philadelphia;
- Wednesday, August 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on Grays Ferry Avenue between 34th Street and Paschall Avenue in Philadelphia;
- Friday, August 10, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Presidential Boulevard and Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia;
- Friday, August 10, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on the ramp from westbound Interstate 76 to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) North in Philadelphia;
- Saturday August 11, and Sunday, August 12, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on the ramp from westbound Interstate 76 to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) North in Philadelphia; and
- Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a left lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Presidential Boulevard and Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The inspections are part of PennDOT's program to inspect bridges at least once every two years to ensure the safety and overall condition of the structures.
