PennDOT Reopens Garnet Mine Road over Green Creek in Bethel Township,
Delaware County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reopened the newly
rehabilitated Garnet Mine Road bridge over Green Creek in Bethel Township,
Delaware County, on Friday afternoon, January 6. The bridge was completed
five
weeks ahead of schedule.

Over the last three weeks, crews worked to replace a wing wall, repaired
steel
beams and improved drainage. The Garnet Mine Road bridge was closed,
Monday,
December 19, due to severe structural damage. The bridge is located between

Woods Edge Drive and Brookstone Drive.

Built in 1986, the one-span concrete encased steel beam bridge is 20 feet
long
and 31 feet wide. The structure carried 2,032 when it closed.

The rehabilitation of the Garnet Mine Road bridge was part of PennDOT's
$6.8
million project to rehabilitate four structurally-deficient bridges in
Bucks
and Montgomery counties, three structurally-deficient culverts in Bucks
County,
and to stabilize a stream embankment at a bridge in Bucks County. The cost
to
rehabilitate the Garnet Mine Road bridge was approximately $100,000.

This transportation improvement project is financed with 100 percent state
funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

All work on the project is scheduled to be completed in late 2018. The
general
contractor is Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J.
