Traffic Pattern Shift Begins Tuesday Night on State Road at I-95 Cottman
Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia

Motorists using State Road in the vicinity of the Interstate 95 Cottman
Avenue
Interchange in Philadelphia will encounter a new traffic pattern south of
Princeton Avenue beginning Tuesday, January 10, that separates drivers
wanting
to access I-95 south from drivers wanting to access New State Road, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The new pattern, which will be put in place after 8:00 PM Tuesday depending
on
the weather, will allow the Philadelphia Water Department to redirect a
water
line near the I-95 Cottman Avenue Interchange. The traffic pattern shift
may be
in place for several months due to the weather-sensitive nature of the
operation.

The new pattern will split southbound State Road traffic heading for the
on-ramp at Longshore Avenue to the right at Princeton Avenue. Southbound
traffic headed for New State Road and the Tacony Palmyra Bridge will be
shifted
to the left at the intersection.

Under the new pattern, northbound State Road will remain open to local
traffic
only between Longshore Avenue and Disston Street.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work zone.

This temporary traffic pattern is part of PennDOT's $218 million project to

rebuild the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange and reconstruct and widen

I-95 between Bleigh Avenue and Levick Street. On December 21, PennDOT
completed
mainline construction on I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street
interchanges and fully opened the highway to four through lanes in each
direction.

Walsh Construction Company II, LLC of Canonsburg, Pa. is the general
contractor
on the project, which is financed with 90 percent federal and 10 percent
state
funds.
