King of Prussia, PA – Jolly Road is scheduled to close between U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Walnut Street beginning Thursday, May 13, for roadway construction under a project to widen and reconstruct a 2.8-mile section of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) in East Norriton and Whitpain townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The full closure will be in place 24/7 through Friday, June 11.

During the closure, Jolly Road motorists will be directed to use U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Route 73 (Skippack Pike) and Wenz Road. Local access will be maintained for residents in the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel near the work area because backups and slowdowns will occur.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signing, and relevant training.

Under this U.S. 202 improvement project, PennDOT is reconstructing and widening U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from two lanes to five lanes with a center turn lane from Township Line Road to just south of Morris Road; installing five-foot bicycle lanes in both directions along the entire project area; and building new sidewalks at various locations along the corridor.

Additional improvements include:

  • Reconstructing five box culverts;
  • Constructing a sound wall and retaining walls;
  • Installing new traffic signals, signing and pavement markings;
  • Performing drainage improvements;
  • Integrating Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve traffic flow;
  • Constructing a wetland mitigation site to compensate for wetlands impact; and
  • Removing a portion of a breached dam on the Wissahickon Creek to mitigate stream impacts.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Grays Ferry Avenue Bridge Reduced to Single Lane Next Week for Paving in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Grays Ferry Avenue will be reduced to a single lane with flagging between 34th Street/University Avenue and 47th Street in Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday, May 2, through Wednesday, May 5, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for paving on the bridge over the Schuylkill River and its approaching roadway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews are placing the final pavement layer on the bridge's recently-repaired concrete deck to substantially complete a project that got underway in late 2018 to rehabilitate the bridge's structural components, upgrade its drainage system, repair and repave its concrete deck, install new sidewalks and protected bicycle lanes, and complete a number of improvements to Grays Ferry Avenue on both sides of the bridge.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed
this spring. For more information, visit www.graysferrybridge.com.

PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT to Rehabilitate 232-Year-Old Trinity Lane (Route 320) Bridge over Gulph Mills Creek in Upper Merion Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 10, on a project to rehabilitate the 232-year-old bridge carrying Trinity Lane (Route 320) over Gulph Mills Creek in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County.

During the three-month rehabilitation project, PennDOT's contractor will utilize original salvaged stone to perform various masonry repairs, cleaning and repointing; install new guiderail and resurface the roadway and approaches. The original plaque on the structure will also be preserved.

Built in 1789 and reconstructed in 1980, the Trinity Lane Bridge is the fifth oldest bridge in use in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The structure is 22-feet-long, 34-feet-wide and carries just over 7,000 vehicles per day.

Due to the nature of construction, Trinity Lane (Route 320) will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Holstein Road and Balligomingo Road beginning Monday, May 10, through the completion of the project scheduled for early August.

During the closure, Trinity Lane (Route 320) motorists will be directed to use Holstein Road, Swedeland Road and South Gulph Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Trinity Lane (Route 320) Bridge is one of five structures in Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $4,948,703 project.

Structures completed under this project include:

  • Kaolin Road Bridge over the west branch of Red Clay Creek in Kennett Township, Chester County; and
  • Concord Road over Green Creek in Concord Township, Delaware County.

The other structures included in this bridge replacement and rehabilitation project include the following:

  • Mansion Road over the south branch of French Creek in Warwick Township, Chester County. Built in 1904, Mansion Road Bridge (Brower's Bridge) is listed with the National Register of Historic Places and a part of the Reading Furnace Historic District; and
  • Route 63 (Red Lion Road) over Huntingdon Valley Creek in Lower Moreland Township, Montgomery County.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2021.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay
