ReadyMontco - Upper Merion Twp Alert

This is a message from ReadyMontco

PennDOT announced that construction will begin Monday, January 13, on a sinkhole remediation project on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) in Upper Merion Township to ensure a safe and efficient long-term transportation system for the traveling public.

Beginning, Monday, January 13, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
• Monday, January 13, through Friday, January 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday right lane closure is scheduled on southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) between Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard and Ivy Lane for sidewalk reconstruction.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.

Due to the nature of construction, northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) is anticipated to close 24/7 in mid-February. When the northbound side reopens, work will shift to southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) with a southbound 24/7 closure. During each closure, motorists will be directed to use Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road.

Remediation of sinkholes on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard were deemed necessary for a long-term solution following reoccurring sinkholes and emergency repairs resulting in traffic disruptions along both corridors.

PennDOT - District 6 News: U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Route 29 (Morehall Road) Sinkhole Remediation Project

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Route 29 (Morehall Road) Sinkhole Remediation Project

PennDOT to Begin Construction on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Route 29 (Morehall Road) Sinkhole Remediation Project in Montgomery, Chester Counties

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Monday, January 13, on a $22.4 million project to provide long-term sinkhole remediation on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, and on Route 29 (Morehall Road) in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, to ensure a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will utilize a limited mobility grouting program, which will involve drilling a series of holes through the pavement in a "grid" pattern. Pressurized grout will be injected into the drilled holes to fill subsurface voids beneath the roadway. The filling of subsurface voids will help stabilize the ground beneath the pavement and will reduce the risk of future sinkholes. Additional work includes drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction.

Beginning, Monday, January 13, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Due to the nature of construction, northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) is aniticapted to close 24/7 in mid-February. When the northbound side reopens, work will shift to southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) with a southbound 24/7 closure. During each closure, motorists will be directed to use Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road.

In addition, traffic shifts are planned on Route 29 (Morehall Road), while maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction. Temporary traffic signal configurations will be utilized.

Remediation of sinkholes on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard and Route 29 (Morehall Road) between Great Valley Parkway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike on-ramp were deemed necessary for a long-term solution following reoccurring sinkholes and emergency repairs resulting in traffic disruptions along both corridors.

The geotechnical analysis for this project incorporated a three-step process, which included ground penetrating radar (GPR), multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) and test borings to generate a detailed profile of subsurface conditions. This was used to determine the best method of remediation for sinkholes in the project areas.

For more information, please visit the U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Route 29 (Morehall Road) sinkhole remediation project webpages.

Heidelberg Materials of Flourtown, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways including color-coded winter conditions, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway and utility construction will occur on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) under a $10.4 million PennDOT project to widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of the highway from the Kennett Oxford Bypass to Greenwood Road in Kennett and East Marlborough townships, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill and overlay U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike); construct a third travel lane on certain sections of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in each direction and use existing shoulders and right turn lanes to create a third lane for the rest of the corridor; build sidewalks along the north side of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) from Schoolhouse Road to the Longwood Village Shopping Center entrance; eliminate the left turn movement from Orchard Avenue onto U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike); install two new Dynamic Message Signs; and upgrade five signalized intersections within the corridor.

Allan Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

For more information, visit the U.S. 1 Chester County projects page.

PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT to Host ‘REAL ID Day’ at Bensalem Driver License Center

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT to Host 'REAL ID Day' at Bensalem Driver License Center

Getting Customer Service Done: PennDOT to Host 'REAL ID Day' on January 13 at Bensalem Driver License Center

Bensalem, PA - To help ensure Pennsylvanians are prepared for the upcoming federal REAL ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that it will hold special REAL ID service hours at its Bensalem Driver License Center at 4201 Neshaminy Blvd., Bensalem on January 13, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

"We're committed to ensuring our customers are ready for the REAL ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton. "By offering special hours on a day when our centers are typically closed, we're providing an additional opportunity for those who want to obtain a REAL ID and be prepared. We are always looking for ways to provide a better service to residents and our REAL ID Days accomplishes that mission."

More than 2.5 million Pennsylvanians have chosen to opt into the REAL ID program. Getting a REAL ID is optional in Pennsylvania, but beginning May 7, 2025, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant license/identification card, or another form of federally acceptable identification (such as a valid passport or military ID) to:

  • Board domestic commercial flights.
  • Enter a military base.
  • Enter certain federal facilities that require a federally acceptable form of ID.

If you're not sure whether a REAL ID is right for you, our REAL ID online wizard may be able to help.

Federal REAL ID regulations require that PennDOT must verify the below documents:

  • Proof of Identity: examples include an original or certified copy of a birth certificate filed with the State Office of Vital Records/Statistics with a raised/embossed seal, or a valid, unexpired U.S. Passport.
  • Proof of Social Security Number (proof must display currently legal name and full nine digits of the Social Security Number): examples include a Social Security card, a W-2 form, a SSA-1099 form, a non-SSA-1099 form, or a pay stub.
  • Two Proofs of Current, Physical PA Address: examples include a current, unexpired PA driver's license or identification card, vehicle registration, or a utility bill with the same name and address.
  • Proof of all Legal Name Changes (if current legal name is different than what is reflected on proof of identity document): examples include certified marriage certificate(s) issued by the County Court for each marriage, court order(s) approving a change in legal name, or adoption decree issued by your county's family court.
  • Note: If current name is the same as what is reflected on the proof of identity document (usually birth certificate or passport), show proof of legal name change does not need to be shown.

More information about REAL ID document requirements can be found on PennDOT's REAL ID website.

When a customer gets their first REAL ID product, they will pay a one-time fee of $30, plus the applicable renewal fee (the current renewal fee is $39.50 for a four-year non-commercial driver's license and $42.50 for a photo ID). The expiration date of their initial REAL ID product will include any time remaining on their existing non-REAL ID product, plus an additional four years, unless the customer is over 65 and has a two-year license. This expiration date structure means that the customer won't lose time that they've already paid for. After the initial REAL ID product expires, the customer will pay no additional fee beyond regular renewal fees to renew a REAL ID product.

After customers present the proper documentation and pay the applicable fee, customers may obtain a REAL ID-compliant product by:

  • Receiving the product in the mail within 15 days, if application was made at a Driver License Center, such as the Bensalem Driver License Center.
  • Receiving the product over the counter, if application was made at one of PennDOT's 15 REAL ID Centers.

Customers who received their first Pennsylvania driver's license, learner's permit, or photo ID card AFTER September 1, 2003, may already have their REAL ID documentation on file with PennDOT.  These customers can  apply for REAL ID pre-verification and order their REAL ID-compliant product online

For a full list of driver license centers, REAL ID Centers, and services offered, please visit the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services website and click on Find A Location.

For more information on REAL ID, visit PennDOT's REAL ID website. REAL ID is optional for Pennsylvanians, but will be required for domestic air travel and entry to certain federal facilities after the May 7, 2025, deadline. A passport will still be required for international travel.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Speed Limit Restored on All Roadways in the Philadelphia Region

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Speed Limit Restored on All Roadways in the Philadelphia Region

Speed Limit Restored on All Roadways in the Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has lifted all speed limit restrictions that were in place on all interstates and major highways across the Philadelphia region during the latest winter storm.

PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

The department asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. Also, for their own safety and the safety of plow operators, motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.

PennDOT reminds motorists to pack an emergency kit for their vehicles. A basic kit should include non-perishable food, water, blanket, small shovel and warm clothes. When preparing an emergency kit, motorists should take into account special needs of passengers such as baby food, pet supplies or medications and pack accordingly.

More information about how to prepare for any type of emergency, including free downloadable checklists of items to keep in your home, car, and at work, and specific information for people with access and functional needs or pets, is available on the Ready PA webpage.

UPDATE: PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Several Philadelphia Area Roadways

King of Prussia, PA – Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in the region.

  • Interstates 95, 295, 476.
  • U.S. Routes 1, 30, 202, 422.
  •  State Route 309.

Commercial vehicles must stay in the right lane while the speed restriction is in place on these highways. Speed limits will be reduced on other roads as conditions warrant.

Although PennDOT crews will be treating roadways, the department's primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

ReadyMontco - Lansdale Declares Snow Alert 1/5 at 6pm

This is a message from ReadyMontco

Please click here to acknowledge receipt of this message

The Borough has issued a Snow Alert effective . The emergency will be in effect until further notice.

The Borough will declare a Snow Alert effective at 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025 until further notice. We are declaring the alert now in an abundance of caution to assure plows can go out when necessary. Should there not be accumulations of snow and plowing is not necessary, we will adjust the alert. Calling the alert early also allows residents ample time to make necessary vehicle arrangements.

For citizens, a snow alert means that all vehicles parked on those streets where signage indicates no parking during a snow alert are required, by law, to be moved elsewhere in order to allow snow plowing of the road surface. Snow alert signage dictates which side of the street residents may not park on when an alert is declared. Residents may park in their driveways (if available), alternate side of their street or another street not marked "No Parking." It is not the policy of the Borough to direct any resident or citizen where to park (i.e. we do not require residents to park in alleys when a snow alert is declared), we can only instruct where parking is not permitted. These parking restrictions are put into place for the purpose of public safety as well as the efficiency of snow clearing on Borough streets; vehicles in violation are subject to ticketing ($50) and/or towing by the Lansdale Borough Police Department. If you see a vehicle parked on a Snow Alert Route, please contact Lansdale Police at 215-368-1801.

For any other weather related emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

We would also like to remind residents and business owners that it is illegal to deposit snow removed from sidewalks or private property onto any Borough street. Ordinance 1172 - Section 302.3.3 prohibits the throwing or blowing of snow into the streets from sidewalk or properties. Violators are subject to fines. To assist emergency personnel, specifically firefighters, please be sure to clear a three (3) foot clearance around all fire hydrants on your property.

The Borough is planning for the snow event with crews out preparing known trouble spots and will remain on call until after the Snow Alert is lifted. Throughout the storm, crews will be clearing snow on all Borough roads which can take up to eight hours for one complete route.

Should this storm feature ice which can collect on trees and wires along with windy conditions, Lansdale Electric asks that if you see any downed wires, please stay away and contact them immediately at 215-361-8371 with the location. Under no circumstance should residents attempt to lift, move or adjust electric wires.

The alert will stay in effect until further notice and will be posted on the website and social media channels when the Snow Alert is lifted and residents can resume normal parking.

Residents of Montgomery County who need emergency shelter during a Snow Alert and/or Code Blue can call the Your Way Home Call Center at 610.278.3522. There are two Code Blue Shelters located in Lansdale at Trinity Lutheran Church (1000 W. Main Street) and the Wissahickon Park Building (765 E. Main Street).

The Borough also asks citizens to be neighborly and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance. Also be sure to keep house numbers visible so that emergency responders can find you in case of emergency. Working together to overcome the obstacles and adversity created by weather situations such as these creates a greater sense of community and kindness. We'll get thr
