Lansdale Declares Snow Alert Effective Friday, January 28 at 6pm

This is a message from ReadyMontco
Please click here to acknowledge receipt of this message

For citizens, a snow alert means that all vehicles parked on those streets where signage indicates no parking during a snow alert are required, by law, to be moved elsewhere in order to allow snow plowing of the road surface. Snow alert signage dictates which side of the street residents may not park on when an alert is declared. Residents may park in their driveways (if available), alternate side of their street or another street not marked "No Parking." It is not the policy of the Borough to direct any resident or citizen where to park (i.e. we do not require residents to park in alleys when a snow alert is declared), we can only instruct where parking is not permitted. These parking restrictions are put into place for the purpose of public safety as well as the efficiency of snow clearing on Borough streets; vehicles in violation are subject to ticketing and/or towing by the Lansdale Borough Police Department.  If you see a vehicle parked on a Snow Alert Route, please contact Lansdale Police at 215-368-1800.

For any other weather related emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

We would also like to remind residents and business owners that it is illegal to deposit snow removed from sidewalks or private property onto any Borough street. Ordinance 1172 - Section 302.3.3 prohibits the throwing or blowing of snow into the streets from sidewalk or properties. Violators are subject to fines.  To assist emergency personnel, specifically firefighters, please be sure to clear a three (3) foot clearance around all fire hydrants on your property.

The Borough is planning for the snow event with crews out preparing known trouble spots and will remain on call until after the Snow Alert is lifted. Throughout the storm, crews will be clearing snow on all Borough roads which can take up to eight hours for one complete route.

This storm may feature ice which can collect on trees and wires along with windy conditions. Lansdale Electric asks that if you see any downed wires, please stay away and contact them immediately at 215-361-8371 with the location. Under no circumstance should residents attempt to lift, move or adjust electric wires.

It will be posted on the website and social media channels when the Snow Alert is lifted and residents can resume normal parking.

The Borough also asks citizens to be neighborly and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance. Also be sure to keep house numbers visible so that emergency responders can find you in case of emergency. Working together to overcome the obstacles and adversity created by weather situations such as these creates a greater sense of community and kindness. We'll get through this together, just as we always do.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Henry Avenue Periodic Lane Closure for Safety Improvement Project in Philadelphia

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Henry Avenue Periodic Lane Closure for Safety Improvement Project in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – A periodic right lane closure is scheduled on southbound Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Dupont Street in Philadelphia, on Monday, January 24, through Friday, January 28 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, under a project to improve travel and safety on a 3.2-mile section of Henry Avenue, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will install or upgrade traffic signals at several intersections to include new mast arms, controllers, signal heads, timing optimization, signal interconnectivity and pedestrian countdown timers. Updated traffic signal timing will be implemented at the Walnut Lane intersection and a traffic signal will be installed at the Barnes Street Intersection, as well as a red-light warning flashing signal just north of the Port Royal Intersection.

Additional improvements on Henry Avenue include: New signing and roadway design features through pavement markings; Milling and resurfacing; Median widening; and Guiderail replacement.

To improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on Henry Avenue, improvements include: Extending the southbound restricted parking between Monastery Avenue and Walnut Lane; Eliminating the channelized right turn lanes at the Gates Street and Wigard Avenue intersections; Adding a raised concrete median at Valley Avenue to eliminate left turns; and Lengthening the northbound left turn lane at Livezey Lane.

To enhance pedestrian and bicyclist mobility, the contractor will construct a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along the east side of Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Walnut Lane. Other safety enhancements include installing bump-outs at 15 intersections and ADA curb ramps at various intersections along the corridor.

The project will feature the addition of speed calming measures on this section of Henry Avenue that sees an average daily traffic volume of 29,000 vehicles daily. The features include 35 mph pavement markings adjacent to speed limit signs; oversized speed limit signs with orange diamonds; electronic speed feedback signs north of Leverington Avenue and north of Cinnaminson Street; and speed limit signs and hidden driveway signs south of Cinnaminson Street.

The project will also address storm water management through storm drainage, water facility relocation, and green stormwater infrastructure.

During construction, PennDOT will maintain traffic on Henry Avenue by utilizing long-term lane shifts and short-term lane closures.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on the $12.8 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in late 2023. More information is available at www.Penndot.gov/HenryAvePhilly.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Speed Limit Restored on All Roadways in the Philadelphia Region

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Speed Limit Restored on All Roadways in the Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has lifted all speed limit restrictions that were in place on all interstates and major highways across the Philadelphia region during the latest winter storm.

PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

While PennDOT recommends not traveling during winter storms, motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

The department also asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. Also, for their own safety and the safety of plow operators, motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.

PennDOT reminds motorists to pack an emergency kit for their vehicles. A basic kit should include non-perishable food, water, blanket, small shovel and warm clothes. When preparing an emergency kit, motorists should take into account special needs of passengers such as baby food, pet supplies or medications and pack accordingly.

More information about how to prepare for any type of emergency, including free downloadable checklists of items to keep in your home, car, and at work, and specific information for people with access and functional needs or pets, is available on the Ready PA webpage.

PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Several Philadelphia Area Roadways

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Several Philadelphia Area Roadways

King of Prussia, PA – Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in the region.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

  • Interstates 76, 95, 295, 476, 676;
  • U.S. Routes 1, 30, 202, 422; and
  • State Routes 63, 100 Spur and 309.

Commercial vehicles must stay in the right lane while the speed restriction is in place on these highways. Speed limits will be reduced on other roads as conditions warrant.

Restrictions will be communicated via variable message boards, the 511PA traveler information website at www.511PA.com and smartphone apps. Motorists can also sign up for alerts on the website.

Although PennDOT crews will be treating roadways, the department's primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
