King of Prussia, PA – The left lane reopened this morning on the bridge carrying southbound Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) over Darby Creek in Tinicum Township, Delaware County, following emergency bridge repair, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The left lane had been closed since Tuesday, August 10, following the discovery of steel I-beam deterioration during a recent bridge inspection. PennDOT's contractor completed the structural reinforcement repairs necessary to safely reopen the lane to traffic. The southbound bridge will remain posted with a 30-ton weight limit and 40 tons for combination loads.
The Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) bridge over Darby Creek was built in 1930. The three-span I-beam multi-girder bridge is 237 feet long, 31 feet wide, and carries approximately 16,000 vehicles per day.

Grays Ferry Avenue Bridge Daytime Lane Closures This Weekend for Construction in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – The Grays Ferry Avenue Bridge over the Schuylkill River between 34th and 47th streets in Philadelphia will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Saturday, August 28, and Sunday, August 29, from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM for fence installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The fence installation had been scheduled for last weekend but was postponed due to weather.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The work is part of the $14 million project to rehabilitate the bridge and complete a number of improvements to Grays Ferry Avenue on both sides of the bridge. Major construction on the project was substantially completed earlier this year.

I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) Full, Lane, Ramp Closures at Night Next Week for Overhead Viaduct Construction in Center City Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – Motorists using Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Center City Philadelphia will encounter alternating full closures traveling eastbound or lane and ramp closures traveling westbound at 30th Street on Monday, August 30, through Thursday, September 2, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
When eastbound I-76 is closed, traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp at 30th Street, go around 30th Street Station, turn left on Chestnut Street, then right Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.
When the westbound off-ramp to 30th Street is closed, westbound I-76 also will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and Interstate 676. Off-ramp traffic will be detoured east on I-676, exit at 23rd Street, turn left on 22nd Street to the ramp to I-676 west, then take the ramp to I-76 east and the exit at 30th Street.

I-76 East University Avenue/Grays Ferry Interchange To Close Saturday, September 11, for Intersection Improvement Project in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 motorists traveling eastbound will encounter a ramp closure at the University Avenue/Grays Ferry Interchange in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 11, from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, due to a project to improve travel and safety at the University Avenue/34th Street intersection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the University Avenue/Grays Ferry Interchange closure, motorists will be directed to use the 30th Street Interchange, Arch Street, 30th Street, Market Street, and 38th Street. In addition, an alternative detour route offered directs I-76 eastbound motorists to take the Passyunk Avenue/Oregon Avenue Interchange, I-76 West, and the University Avenue Interchange.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will realign the intersection, which is listed on the National Highway System and is classified as an "Urban Principal Arterial", through relocating the lane on which exiting I-76 eastbound motorists currently merge onto westbound University Avenue and moving it closer to the ramp's existing signalized intersection with University Avenue/34th Street. This safety improvement will allow the traffic signal to control the right turn onto westbound University Avenue instead of a yield sign. Dual right turn lanes will also be added for this new turning move.
In addition, the contractor will resurface and upgrade traffic signals at the intersection; rebuild ADA curb ramps to improve pedestrian safety; and install new guiderail, drainage, and stormwater management features at this location.
Tony DePaul & Son of Flourtown is the general contractor on this $1,930,228 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in fall 2023.

PennDOT Reopens Route 63 (Red Lion Road) in Lower Moreland Township
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has reopened Route 63 (Red Lion Road) over Huntingdon Valley Creek in Lower Moreland Township, Montgomery County, following the completion of a culvert replacement project.
PennDOT's contractor replaced the existing 92-year-old structure, measured at 14 feet long and 20 feet wide, with a new wider precast concrete arch culvert, which is 14 feet long and 50 feet wide. The added width will improve traffic flow for the on average 13,082 vehicles that travel over the structure daily. Other improvements included storm water management, signalization, sidewalk, and ADA curb ramp upgrades.
Route 63 (Red Lion Road) culvert is one of five structures in Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware counties that PennDOT is repairing or replacing under a $4,948,703 project.

King of Prussia, PA – The bridge carrying Sheeder Road over branch of French Creek in East Vincent Township, Chester County was closed Friday night after severe undermining under both of the bridge's stone masonry support abutments was discovered during a post-flood inspection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The one-span bridge will remain closed until emergency underpinning work can be performed.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 23 (Ridge Road), Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), and Pughtown Road.
The Sheeder Road bridge over branch of French Creek was originally built in 1937 and carries an average of 1,221 vehicles daily.

Bustleton Avenue Overnight Lane Closure for Resurfacing Operations in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – A lane closure is scheduled on Bustleton Avenue between Grant Avenue and Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia on Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for milling operations as part of a project to mill and resurface 28 miles of state highways in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on this $10.9 million state funded resurfacing project to repair and resurface 11 state roadways in Philadelphia. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.
