Repair and Resurface Stenton Avenue in Philadelphia

6/30/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Construction will begin Tuesday night, July 5, to repair and resurface 1.5
miles of Stenton Avenue in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

PennDOT will improve travel on Stenton Avenue between Paper Mill Road and
Wister Street by milling off the deteriorated pavement and resurfacing the
state road with asphalt. The new asphalt pavement will extend the life of
the
roadway and provide motorists with a smoother ride.

Construction crews will work weeknights to adjust utilities manholes; mill
off
the old riding surface; repair the roadway base; and repave the road. This
operation, which is expected to take three weeks to complete, will result
in
weeknight lane closures from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Motorists are advised to
allow
additional time for travel during overnight construction.

The resurfacing of Stenton Avenue is part of a $2,120,756 contract that
also
included the resurfacing of South Broad Street (Route 611) between Oregon
Avenue and the Navy Yard. The South Broad Street resurfacing was completed
in
May 2016.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general

contractor on the project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.

U.S. 422 to Close Overnight Next Week Near Pottstown for Traffic Pattern Change

U.S. 422 to Close Overnight Next Week Near Pottstown for Traffic Pattern
Change

6/30/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

U.S. 422 east and west will face nighttime closures and daytime
intermittent
traffic stoppages next week between the Stowe and Route 100 interchanges to

shift traffic onto the newly built westbound bridge over the Schuylkill
River
in North Coventry Township, Chester County, and West Pottsgrove Township,
Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced
today.

The upcoming traffic shift is part of PennDOT's $36.2 million project to
build
new bridges to carry U.S. 422 over the Schuylkill River.

U.S. 422 west will be closed and detoured Tuesday, July 5, from 9:00 PM to
4:00
AM the following morning for painting traffic lines and relocating concrete

barriers. During the overnight closure, westbound U.S. 422 drivers will
exit
onto Route 100 north and follow Route 100 north to westbound High
Street/Benjamin Franklin Highway, and take High Street/Benjamin Franklin
Highway west to return to U.S. 422 west.

Following the completion of work Wednesday morning, July 6, westbound U.S.
422
traffic will be moved onto the newly built bridge over the Schuylkill
River.

On Wednesday, July 6, from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM the following morning, U.S.
422
east will be closed for milling, paving, traffic line painting, and moving
concrete barriers. U.S. 422 east motorists will detoured onto eastbound
Benjamin Franklin Highway/High Street and they will follow Benjamin
Franklin
Highway/High Street east to Route 100 south, and then take Route 100 south
to
reach U.S. 422 east.

PennDOT expects to shift the single-lane of U.S. 422 eastbound traffic over
to
the new bridge by July 15. The contractor will then begin to demolish the
existing eastbound U.S. 422 structure and build a new eastbound span.

In addition, U.S. 422 motorists will face intermittent traffic stoppages
when
traveling between the Route 100 and Stowe interchanges on Thursday, July 7,
and
Friday, July 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. for the resurfacing of crossover
lanes.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel through the
construction area.

PennDOT is building the new U.S. 422 bridges in two stages to keep one
travel
lane open in each direction during construction. The new westbound U.S. 422

structure was built in stage one. The new eastbound U.S. 422 bridge will be

rebuilt in stage two, which is about to begin, and the center median will
be
built in stage three. Construction is scheduled to finish in September
2018.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$36,237,872 contract that is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act
89,
Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

This improvement project is the second of six projects to move to
construction
for PennDOT's multi-phase program to rebuild and improve seven miles of
U.S.
422 between the Berks County line and the Sanatoga Interchange.

U.S. 422 Night Lane Closures Three Nights Next Week in Valley Forge Area

6/30/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

U.S. 422 motorists will encounter overnight lane closures three nights next

week for road construction between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and First
Avenue interchanges in Montgomery and Chester counties, respectively, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges
to
improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River,
Norfolk
Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West
Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project includes

improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its
interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper
Road),
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction
began
in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

Eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 will be reduced from two lanes to one on
Tuesday, July 5, through Thursday, July 8, for median shoulder excavation
and
paving. The lane closure on U.S. 422 east will be in place each night from
7:00
PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. The westbound lane closure will occur
from
9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning.

Intermittent Traffic Stoppages Wednesday on Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia

Intermittent Traffic Stoppages Wednesday on Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia

6/30/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Intermittent traffic stoppages are scheduled on Passyunk Avenue between
61st
Street and 28th Street in Philadelphia on Wednesday, July 6, from 9:00 AM
to
3:00 PM for drawbridge testing on the Honorable Robert C. Donatucci
Memorial
Bridge, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today
announced. Several traffic stoppages will occur during this operation.

The work is part of PennDOT's two-year, $33.5 million project to
rehabilitate
and improve the drawbridge over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

The 33-year-old bridge is undergoing construction to enhance the
drawbridge's
mechanical operation and structural condition. PennDOT's contractor is
upgrading the drawbridge by rehabilitating the motors, brakes, locks and
gears,
plus the electrical power, controls, traffic control systems and gates.

Construction crews also will repair and paint structural steel, replace
deteriorated concrete, overlay the bridge deck with latex concrete, replace

expansion joints, reset rocker bearings, repair pedestrian railings, and
clean
and repair the drainage systems.

Currently, the bridge carries three westbound and three eastbound travel
lanes,
and two sidewalks. At the end of construction, the bridge will carry two
westbound and two eastbound travel lanes, two sidewalks, and two
13-foot-wide
shoulders. The reduction in travel lanes resulted from a joint study with
the
City of Philadelphia, which determined that two travel lanes in each
direction
on the bridge would be more consistent with the Passyunk Avenue corridor.

The bridge was built in 1983. The steel-girder bridge has 18-spans,
including
the one-span drawbridge section. The bridge is 2,240 feet long and 92 feet
wide. It carries an average of 20,800 vehicles a day.

Buckley and Company Inc., of Philadelphia, is the general contractor on the

$33,527,470 project. Construction is expected to finish in late 2018. The
project is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

PennDOT, State Police Urge Drivers to Plan Ahead, Designate a Sober Driver for Independence Day Holiday

PennDOT, State Police Urge Drivers to Plan Ahead, Designate a Sober Driver
for Independence Day Holiday

6/30/2016-HARRISBURG

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Pennsylvania
State
Police and local police are partnering to help decrease alcohol and drug-
related crashes and fatalities, as well as aggressive driving behavior,
through
the Independence Day holiday weekend.

"Though Independence Day is a time for celebration, we urge Pennsylvanians
to
plan ahead and designate a sober driver throughout the holiday weekend,"
PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said. "Drivers should also avoid
aggressive driving behavior and always wear your seat belt so that we all
get
to our destinations safety and spend time with family and friends."

According to PennDOT data, last year there were 330 alcohol-related crashes

resulting in 11 fatalities from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, July 5. This
marked
an increase from 2014, when there were 326 alcohol-related crashes and 11
fatalities from Friday June 27th through Sunday July 6, 2014. Also, during
the
holiday period last year, there were 99 drug-related crashes and four
fatalities in those crashes, an increase from 85 drug-related crashes and
four
fatalities in 2014.

Police this year will focus their enforcement efforts on speeders,
aggressive
drivers, seat-belt use and those who drink and drive during the holiday
period.

"We urge motorists to buckle up and use caution when traveling over the
holiday," said State Police Commissioner Tyree C. Blocker. "Troopers will
be on
the lookout for traffic violations and impaired drivers, so please obey the

speed limit and don't get behind the wheel impaired. To ensure motorists
get to
their destinations safely, remember to keep distractions to a minimum while

driving."

As part of this high-visibility impaired-driving enforcement effort, the
Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement will conduct
checkpoints
and roving patrols. This effort is funded through PennDOT's statewide
distribution of more than $4.7 million in federal funds from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The public can join the conversation on social media by using #drivesober
and
#designateddriver.

Bristol Road to Close at Route 263 (York Road) in Warminster and Warwick Township for Reconstruction

Bristol Road to Close at Route 263 (York Road) in Warminster and Warwick
Township for Reconstruction

6/28/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced
that
Bristol Road will be closed and detoured on the west side of the
intersection
with Route 263 (York Road) in Warminster and Warwick townships, Bucks
County,
for two months, beginning Tuesday, July 5, for intersection reconstruction.

The Bristol Road closure is associated with PennDOT's $31.6 million project
to
reconstruct and improve four miles of Route 263 (York Road) between Bristol

Road and Sugar Bottom Road in Warwick and Warminster townships.
Construction
began in March 2014 and is expected to finish in October 2017.

During construction to rebuild the west side of Bristol Road at its
approach to
Route 263 (York Road), traffic will be detoured over Route 611 (Easton
Road),
Route 132 (Street Road) and Route 263 (York Road). Local access will be
maintained up to the construction zone as eastbound Bristol Road traffic
will
be able to reach Route 263 (York Road) to travel north or south during
construction; however, eastbound travelers will not be able to cross the
intersection. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling
through
the area.

The west side of Bristol Road is expected to reopen in late-August. Later
this
fall the contractor will rebuild the east side of Bristol Road at Route 263

(York Road).

PennDOT is rebuilding Route 263 to provide a smoother, safer roadway for
motorists for decades to come. The improvements include full depth pavement

reconstruction of the existing four-lane concrete road and intersection
improvements.

In addition, crews are rehabilitating the bridge over the Neshaminy Creek;
rehabilitating the bridge that spans the Little Neshaminy Creek and Creek
Road;
improving drainage; installing new traffic signal equipment, guiderail,
signs,
pavement markings and curb ramps; and relocating aerial and underground
utilities.

To enhance travel along the corridor, PennDOT is installing new traffic
signals
at seven intersections on Route 263. The intersections include Tulip Road,
Kendarbren Drive/Private Drive, Kendarbren Drive/Ridge Drive, Bristol Road,

Meyer Way, Almshouse Road and Mill Road. Turn lanes are being lengthened or

added at Route 263's intersections with Bristol Road, Meyer Way and
Almshouse
Road. A new traffic signal also is being installed at Deer Run Drive.

The $31,571,380 project is financed with 100 percent federal funds. J.D.
Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor.

through
Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

In addition to Remington Road, PennDOT's contractor will replace the
superstructure (bridge deck and beams) on the Trewigtown Road bridge over

Schuylkill
River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships,
Montgomery County. This project also includes rebuilding U.S. 422 between

upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422;
and
improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge

Intermittent Traffic Stoppages Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia

Intermittent Traffic Stoppages Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia

6/24/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Intermittent traffic stoppages are scheduled on Passyunk Avenue between
61st
Street and 28th Street in Philadelphia on Tuesday, June 28, and Wednesday,
June
29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for drawbridge testing which would require
several
openings on the Honorable Robert C. Donatucci Memorial Bridge, the
Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced. Several traffic
stoppages will occur during this operation.

Commercial Vehicles Over Five Tons to be Restricted on I-95 in Philadelphia During Democratic National Convention

Commercial Vehicles Over Five Tons to be Restricted on I-95 in
Philadelphia During Democratic National Convention

6/23/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Commercial vehicles weighing more than five tons will be prohibited from
traveling on Interstate 95 between Exit 13 (Interstate 76 West/Route
291/Valley
Forge) and Exit 22 (Interstate 676) in Philadelphia from Saturday, July 23
at
12:00 PM, until midday Friday, July 29, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation said today.

"The rerouting of commercial vehicles off I-95 is associated with the
security
for the Democratic National Convention," said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S.
Richards. "PennDOT and regional transportation partners will utilize a
combination of electronic message boards and stationary signs to guide
commercial truck drivers along alternate routes during this temporary
restriction.

"We urge commercial drivers, if possible, to travel on interstate highways
outside the Philadelphia region during the week of the convention to avoid
being diverted off I-95," Richards added.

Among the types of commercial vehicles to be restricted from traveling on
this
part of I-95 during the convention are delivery trucks, utility vehicles,
parcel trucks, small dump trucks, buses, flatbed and stake trucks,
refrigerated
and box trucks, large delivery trucks, refuse trucks, cement mixers, buses,
and
all tractor trailer combinations including double trailers.

In addition, motor homes and recreational trailers operated for personal
use
and weighing more than five tons will also be restricted from traveling on
this
section of I-95.

The following are the posted detours that drivers of vehicles over five
tons
will be directed to follow to return to I-95 once they exit the interstate:

•From I-95 north: Route 291 (Penrose Avenue) east, to 26th Street, to
Interstate 76 west, to Interstate 676 east; and
•From I-95 south: I-676 west, to I-76 east, to 26th Street, to Route
291(Penrose Avenue) west.

In addition, the northbound and southbound entrance ramps to I-95 between
Exit
13 and Exit 22 in Philadelphia will be closed to commercial vehicles over
five
tons. Commercial vehicles will be directed to use arterial roads to reach
either I-95 north or south beyond Exit 13 or Exit 22.

Richards said all interstate highways and expressways in the Philadelphia
region will remain open to passenger vehicles throughout the convention.
She
advised commuters to allow additional time for travel on I-76, I-676 and
Route
291 during this time because these highways will experience heavier traffic

volumes due to commercial vehicles being diverted off I-95. Citizens should

consider using public transportation for travel into and out of Center
City.

The I-95 exit ramps at Broad Street (Route 611/Exit 17) in south
Philadelphia
also will be closed during convention week.

The I-95 north exit ramp at Broad Street (Route 611/Exit 17) will be closed

from Friday, July 22 at 10:00 PM until midday Friday, July 29.

The southbound I-95 exit ramp at Broad Street (Route 611/Exit 17) will be
open
intermittently during convention week, but only for access to the Navy
Yard.
The southbound exit-ramp will be closed:

•Friday, July 22, at 10:00 PM to Saturday, July 23, at 6:00 AM;
•Monday, July 25, at 2:00 PM to Tuesday, July 26, at 2:00 AM;
•Tuesday, July 26, at 2:00 PM to Wednesday, July 27, at 2:00 AM;
•Wednesday, July 27, at 2:00 PM to Thursday, July 28, at 2:00 AM; and
•Thursday, July 28, at 2:00 PM to midday Friday, July 29.

The southbound I-95 off-ramp will be open to the Navy Yard only at all
other
times during convention week.

The posted detours for motorists to follow during the closure of the I-95
exit
ramps at Broad Street (Route 611/Exit 17) are:

•From I-95 North: Route 291 (Penrose Avenue) east, to Moyamensing Avenue,
to
Oregon Avenue to Broad Street (Route 611); and
•From I-95 South: Enterprise Avenue, to Island Avenue, to Route 291
(Penrose
Avenue) east, to Moyamensing Avenue, to Oregon Avenue to Broad Street
(Route
611).

PennDOT is working closely with regional transportation partners to
coordinate
travel-related messaging and the use of electronic message signs to inform
commercial drivers and travelers of I-95 travel restrictions in
Philadelphia
during this special event. Messages will be posted on 109 permanent and
portable electronic message signs beginning Saturday, July 16, and
continuing
throughout the week of the convention.

PennDOT will not close travel lanes on the following interstate highways
and
expressways for construction and maintenance activities from Sunday night,
July
24, to Friday morning, July 29: I-76; I-95 between I-676 and I-476: I-676;
U.S.
202 between Route 29 and I-76; and U.S. 422 between U.S. 202 and Route 23.

Oversized loads also will be prohibited from traveling in the Philadelphia
region from Saturday, July 23, at 12:00 PM through midday Friday, July 29.

To assist those traveling to Philadelphia for the convention, PennDOT will
launch a travelers' website in July – www.511PA.com/DNC. The website will
be a
useful tool that provides real-time traffic information; color-coded maps
showing how traffic is flowing; and other valuable information. The site
will
be accessible from both desktop and mobile interfaces.

To further help motorists and expedite the reopening of travel lanes
resulting
from breakdowns or incidents during the convention, PennDOT will operate
its
State Farm Safety Patrol tow truck service around-the-clock from Saturday,
July
23, to Friday, July 29, on I-76; I-95 between Route 63 and the Delaware
state
line; I-476; I-676; U.S. 202 between Boot Road and I-76; and U.S. 422
between
U.S. 202 and Route 29.
