PennDOT Starting $5.4 Million Project to Resurface 24 Miles of State
Highway in Montgomery County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today
that
construction will begin next week on a $5.4 million project to repair and
resurface 24 miles of state highway in Montgomery County. The entire
project is
expected to be completed in July.
Next week's scheduled work is as follows:
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 663 (Layfield Road)
between
Hill Road and Kings Road in New Hanover Township, for utility work;
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 663 (Layfield
Road/Pottstown
Avenue) between Montgomery Avenue and Route 29 (Main Street) in Pennsburg
Borough, for utility work;
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 663 (Layfield Road)
between
Hill Road and Montgomery Avenue in Upper Hanover Township, for utility
work;
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 29 (Bridge Street)
between
U.S. 422 and Tow Path Road in Upper Providence Township, for utility work;
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 29 (Main Street) between
West
6th Street and Front Street in East Greenville Borough, for milling;
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 29 (Main Street) between
Front Street and 11th Street in Pennsburg Borough, for milling; and
• Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 29 (Main Street) between
11th
Street and West 2nd Street in Red Hill Borough, for milling.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work
zones because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's
schedule is dependent on the weather.
The additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract
include:
• U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) between Church Road and U.S. 1 (City Avenue)
in
Lower Merion Township;
• King Street between Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Manatawny Street in
Pottstown Borough;
• Hartman Road between Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) and Route 463 (Horsham
Road)
in Montgomery Township;
• Bethlehem Pike between Montgomery Avenue and Route 309 in Lower Gwynedd
and
Upper Dublin townships and Ambler Borough; and
• Route 41 (Audobon Road) between Pawlings Road and Route 363 (Trooper
Road) in
Lower Providence Township.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill off the existing roadway
surface and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement
will
seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. All
work on the project is expected to be completed in July 2017.
H & K Group, Inc., of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor on the $5,439,980 project, which is financed with 100 percent
state
funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.
