PennDOT - District 6 News

Route 29 (Morehall Road) Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled for Improvement Project in Chester County

King of Prussia, PA – Route 29 (Morehall Road) motorists will encounter lane closures with flagging in both directions between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange and Yellow Springs Road in Charlestown and East Whiteland townships, Chester County, on Tuesday, September 4, through Friday, September 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for construction activities related to an improvement project to reconstruct a portion of the highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Route 29 (Morehall Road) drivers, as well as motorists exiting the Pennsylvania Turnpike, are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work zone because backups and slowdowns will occur during construction. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, crews are working to correct existing sinkhole and pavement subsidence issues. PennDOT is working to minimize future sinkhole problems by constructing geotechnical treatments and roadway drainage improvements to prevent surface water infiltration and provide structural support to the roadway. The project is scheduled to be completed in September.

Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $2,592,555 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) Daytime Lane Restrictions Scheduled for Safety Improvement Project in Chester County

King of Prussia, PA – Weekday lane restrictions are scheduled in both directions on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Black Horse Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in Upper Uwchlan, West Vincent, East Nantmeal and South Coventry townships, Chester County, on Wednesday, September 5, through Friday, September 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, for guide rail installation and other construction activities related to a project to improve traffic flow and safety along a 6.3-mile section of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work zone because slowdowns and backups will occur during construction. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent.

As part of this project, crews are working to improve the stretch of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between Garrison Drive and Route 23 (Ridge Road). The scope of work includes constructing two shoulder-widening pull-offs; installing pavement markings, rumble strips, and guide rail; and resurfacing the corridor with an open-graded surface treatment (NovaChip) to increase friction and reduce hydroplaning.

In addition, PennDOT's contractor will improve the intersection of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Route 23 (Ridge Road) by constructing a dedicated northbound left-turn lane as well as updating traffic signals.

Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $5.6 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late summer.

PennDOT - District 6 News: U.S. 1 North Overnight Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Safety Improvement Project in Bucks County

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

U.S. 1 North Overnight Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Safety Improvement Project in Bucks County

King of Prussia, PA – Northbound U.S. 1 motorists will encounter overnight lane restrictions between the U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) and Route 32 interchanges in Bucks County, on Tuesday, September 4, through Friday, September 7, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for placement of a permanent concrete barrier as part of a project to enhance travel and safety on northbound U.S. 1 through the interchange with U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) and Route 32 in Falls, Middletown and Lower Makefield townships, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work zone because slowdowns will occur during construction. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

When completed, this project will improve U.S. 1 by providing northbound motorists two through lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32, thereby removing the "exit only" lane that currently exists for northbound drivers at this interchange. In addition, a concrete barrier is being placed between U.S. 1 north and the on-ramp from U.S. 13 to eliminate the substandard weave condition that currently exists when U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) drivers enter U.S. 1 and weave through traffic to reach the Route 32 exit ramp.

The scope of the project also included placement of a high-friction surface treatment on U.S. 1 south in the area of Route 32 as well as replacement of overhead signs throughout the project area. Construction of an additional auxiliary lane along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road was also completed under this project.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $2,327,110 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Construction is expected to be completed this summer.

PennDOT - District 6 News: College Avenue Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Trench Restoration in Haverford Township

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

College Avenue Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Trench Restoration in Haverford Township

King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled on College Avenue between Walton Road and Haverford Road in Haverford Township, Delaware County, on Tuesday, September 4, through Friday, September 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for trench restoration, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. These restrictions will also be in effect at the intersection of Haverford Road and College Avenue.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the construction area because slowdowns will occur. The work schedule is weather dependent.

In early June, PennDOT reopened the new College Avenue bridge over the SEPTA railroad tracks and the adjacent culvert over Cobbs Creek.

Additional improvements remain as crews have been working to stain the bridge parapets and complete the widening and improvement of the College Avenue and Haverford Road intersection, which includes the installation of new traffic signals as well as the addition of left turn lanes on College Avenue at this intersection.

PennDOT's contractor replaced the two-span concrete encased steel beam bridge with a one-span composite pre-stressed concrete box beam structure and constructed a new precast reinforced concrete arch culvert.

The new structure over the SEPTA tracks is 42 feet wide and 58 feet long, with two 11-foot travel lanes and a 10-foot left turn lane. It also features a five-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the structure and a two-foot wide shoulder on the east side.

The new concrete arch culvert is 42 feet wide and 24 feet long. It has two 11-foot travel lanes and a 10-foot painted center gore area. It also features a five-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the structure and a two-foot wide shoulder on the east side.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $5,240,145 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on Project to Repair and Resurface 11 Miles of State Highway in Delaware County

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on Project to Repair and Resurface 11 Miles of State Highway in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin next week on a project to repair and resurface more than 11 miles of state highway in Delaware County.

"We are committed to improving the transportation network in all areas across Pennsylvania," Governor Tom Wolf said. "The resurfacing efforts in Delaware County will help create quality roadways and safer driving conditions for residents in their everyday lives."

This project accompanies the governor's Resurface PA initiative, an aggressive campaign launched by PennDOT to accelerate repaving interstates and attacking potholes across the state's 40,000 miles of PennDOT-maintained roads, the nation's fifth largest such system.

On Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Harvey Road between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Oakland Road in Chadds Ford Township for milling operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

Additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:

  • Chichester Avenue between Route 452 (Market Street) and Concord Road in Bethel, Upper Chichester, and Lower Chichester townships;
  • Ring Road between Ridge Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in Chadds Ford Township;
  •  Foulk Road between U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Concord Road in Bethel Township;
  • Pyle Road between U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 491 (Naamans Creek Road) in Bethel Township; and
  • Ridge Road between the Delaware state line and U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) in Concord and Chadds Ford townships.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill the existing roadway surface and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $2,757,777 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in December 2018.

PennDOT - District 6 News: Route 611 (Easton Road) Overnight Restrictions Scheduled Next Week in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

Route 611 (Easton Road) Overnight Restrictions Scheduled Next Week in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter single-lane patterns with temporary stoppages overnight in both directions on Route 611 (Easton Road) from just north of Home Depot Drive to Wyandotte Road in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County, on Tuesday, September 4, through Saturday, September 8, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for milling and other construction activities as part of a project to rehabilitate two bridges on Route 611 (Easton Road), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on Route 611 (Easton Road) through the work area. The work schedule is weather dependent.

These restrictions are necessary to advance this project into Stage 5, during which crews will focus their work on milling the roadway.

Mainline bridge construction is scheduled to be completed in early September. Once the bridge work is finished, the contractor will utilize overnight lane closures for the resurfacing of Route 611 (Easton Road) in this area. Work on both bridges is being performed concurrently to minimize traffic impacts.

The final phase of the project involves repairs to bridge walls and abutments adjacent to two ramps at the Route 611/Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange, an operation that will result in overnight closures of the turnpike ramp to southbound Route 611 and the ramp to the Pennsylvania Turnpike from southbound Route 611.

Route 611 (Easton Road) motorists will continue to encounter lane closures and changing traffic patterns during this multi-stage project. Drivers must allow considerably more time for travel through the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange during construction on the two bridges because northbound and southbound Route 611 (Easton Road) are reduced to one lane in areas from just north of Home Depot Drive to Wyandotte Road.

PennDOT's contractor is improving the bridges on Route 611 by removing the deteriorated concrete surfaces and installing new concrete overlays to protect the decks and provide smoother riding surfaces. Crews are also sealing expansion joints; repairing concrete beams; installing downspouts; adding rock protection along the support abutments at the bridge over the branch of Pennypack Creek; and repairing concrete walls and abutments.

Built in the 1950s, the bridges are 1,115 feet apart and carry about 31,500 vehicles a day.

The bridge carrying Route 611 (Easton Road) over Pennypack Creek is a single-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge that is 30 feet long and 64 feet wide.

The bridge carrying Route 611 (Easton Road) over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramps is a single-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge that is 41 feet long and 78 feet wide.

The two bridges are among nine structures in Chester and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.

Bridges completed under this project include:

  • Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
  • Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County;
  • Quakertown Road over Macoby Creek in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County; and
  • Route 63 (Welsh Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County.

The other bridges in this rehabilitation project include:

  • Boot Road over Route 100 in West Whiteland Township, Chester County;
  • Whitford Road over Valley Creek in West Whiteland Township, Chester County; and
  • Linfield Road over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
