Weekday Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Repair and Resurfacing

Weekday lane restrictions are scheduled next week on three state highways
as
part of an improvement project to repair and resurface 40 miles of state
highway in Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedule is:
• Tuesday, April 3, through Friday, April 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions are scheduled on Chadds Ford Road/Creek Road between the
Delaware
state line and the Delaware County line in Pennsbury Township, for milling;
• Tuesday, April 3, through Saturday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
lane
restrictions are scheduled on Route 82 (Doe Run Road) from east of Tapeworm
Road to Strasburg Road in West Marlborough and East Fallowfield townships,
for
paving; and
• Tuesday, April 3, through Saturday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
lane
restrictions are scheduled on Strasburg Road between Route 372 (Valley
Road)
and Route 82 (Doe Run Road) in Sadsbury and East Fallowfield townships, for
paving.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
areas
because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the
weather.
Additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract
include:
• Route 352 (North Chester Road/Sproul Road) between Route 3 (West Chester
Pike) and U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) in Westtown, East Goshen and East
Whiteland townships;
• Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) between the U.S. 1 ramps to Route 10
(Limestone
Road) in London Grove, Londonderry and West Fallowfield townships;
• Route 52 (Lenape Road) between Route 926 (Street Road) and Creek Road in
Pennsbury, Pocopson and Birmingham townships;
• Route 472 (Hickory Hill Road/Market Street/Lancaster Avenue/Lancaster
Pike)
between Freese Road and the Lancaster County line in East Nottingham and
Lower
Oxford townships and Oxford Borough;
• Northbrook Road between Brandywine Drive and Route 842 (Unionville
Wawaset
Road) in West Bradford and Pocopson townships;

• Saginaw Road between Route 472 (Hickory Hill Road) and Big Elk Creek in

• Faggs Manor Road between Route 926 (Street Road) and Route 41 (Gap
Newport
Pike) in Londonderry Township.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway
surface
and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will
seal
the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.
Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor
on the $7,959,000 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds
from
Act 89, Pennsylvania's Transportation Plan.
Work on the project is expected to be completed in October 2018.

PennDOT maintenance and contractor crews will be working on more than 40
state
highways next week to repair deteriorated pavement across the five-county
Philadelphia region.
In addition to the roads listed below, crews will be performing patching
operations on Route 401 (Conestoga Road) in West Pikeland Township,
Hibernia
Road in West Caln Township, and Reeceville Road in East Brandywine
Township,
Chester County, on Saturday, March 31, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The full list of roadways includes:

• U.S. 1 in Bensalem, Middletown, Lower Makefield and Falls townships and
Morrisville Borough;
• Business U.S. 1 in Middletown and Falls townships;

installing standardized technology at 42 shared-ride transit providers
statewide, improving efficiency and service for the Pennsylvanians who use
the
door-to-door service in the 65 covered counties.
"Shared-ride transportation is vital to Pennsylvanians connecting to
medical
appointments, jobs, and their community," PennDOT Secretary Leslie S.
Richards
said. "Their time is valuable, and this technology helps maximize the
riders
and drivers' routes so we have the best use of time and resources
possible."
The service scheduling and dispatch software, called Ecolane, helps
providers
improve on-time performance, collect data, and maximize the number of trips
provided. In 22 counties, the public can view available travel options as
well
as reserve or cancel shared-ride trips at www.FindmyridePA.com.
To further increase customer service, the partnership is rolling out
interactive voice response technology which automatically call riders the
night
before their service informing them of their scheduled trips, call before
the
driver arrives at their location, and allow cancellation through the system
without having to call transit providers.
PennDOT will soon begin formal evaluations on effectiveness and cost
savings
associated with the technology, but it has already facilitated
efficiencies.
The common software ensures that service cooperation or consolidation is
seamless for riders.
One example of a consolidation facilitated by the technology is
rabbittransit's
consolidation of shared-ride service for 10 counties in south central
Pennsylvania by centralizing call taking, dispatching, and scheduling.
Another
example of operational benefits is Blair Senior Services, Inc. in Blair
County.
After implementing Ecolane, Blair used the data to reduce the number of
vehicles it needed to provide their service while increasing the number of
trips provided per service hour. Those changes help to control costs and
delay
fare increases.
Shared-ride service provides on-demand community transportation service and
is
available in all 67 counties. The Ecolane software is in use in all

except Philadelphia and Allegheny, where the shared-ride service providers

The ramp from eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to U.S. 202 north in East
Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester County, will be reduced
from
two-lanes-to-one for approximately nine months beginning next weekend for
replacement of deteriorated concrete pavement, the Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Crews will set up the single-lane traffic pattern on the ramp overnight
Friday,
April 6, following nighttime lane restrictions earlier in the week on
northbound and southbound U.S. 202 for construction at the interchange.
Beginning Monday morning, April 9, motorists on eastbound U.S. 30/Exton
Bypass
approaching U.S. 202 should allow extra time for travel through the work
area,
or use an alternate route, as significant backups are expected during the
morning and afternoon rush hours through late fall for the duration of the
ramp
repair operation.
The ramp repairs are being done under PennDOT's $26.4 million project that
also
includes rehabilitation of the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges
over
Amtrak at the U.S. 30 Interchange. In late 2017, PennDOT completed
replacement
of the deteriorated concrete from the outside lane of the two-lane ramp
from
southbound U.S. 202 to U.S. 30 and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass.
Motorists on northbound and southbound U.S. 202 also will encounter lane
restrictions and stoppages next week for other construction activities on
the
bridges.
Weather permitting, the work schedule is:
• Tuesday, April 3, from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM Wednesday, April 4, northbound
and
southbound U.S. 202 will be reduced to a single lane between the Route 401
and
U.S. 30 interchanges for construction on the southbound bridge over Amtrak
and
the U.S. 30 ramp. Southbound U.S. 202 motorists also will encounter
periodic
stoppages of up to 15 minutes periodically during the operation;
• Thursday, April 5, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM Friday, April 6, northbound
U.S.
202 will be reduced to a single lane between the Boot Road and Route 401
interchanges for adjustments to the traffic pattern at the work zone; and
• Friday, April 6, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM Saturday, April 7, the ramp
from
the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 will be closed as crews set
up
the long-term traffic pattern that will reduce the ramp to a single lane
for
replacement of deteriorated concrete. U.S. 30 motorists heading for U.S.
202
north will be directed to exit at Business U.S. 30, turn right on Business
U.S.
30, then turn right onto the ramp to northbound U.S. 202.

Periodic daytime and overnight lane closures will be in place starting next
week on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just
east
of Clayton Park Drive in Concord Township, Delaware County, as year two of
construction begins on the $62.2 million project to improve and widen the
highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced
today.
On Mondays through Fridays, beginning April 2, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and
on
Mondays through Thursdays, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning,
flaggers will direct an alternating single lane of traffic on U.S. 322
(Conchester Highway) through various work areas along the 2.6-mile
construction
zone. These daytime and overnight operations will continue through late
fall.
Drivers are also reminded that U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) access to and
from
Cambridge Drive will close for approximately seven weeks beginning Monday,
April 2, for reconstruction of the intersection. Similar construction
activities also closed access to and from Station Road on the south side of
the
highway for four weeks beginning on March 26.
Motorists should expect significant delays on U.S. 322 (Conchester
Highway),
allow extra time for travel through the work areas, or use an alternate
route.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Crews are setting temporary construction barrier along the outer edges of
the
existing eastbound and westbound lanes and continuing installation of
stormwater drainage pipes, culverts and basins across the work zone.
Excavation
that began in 2017 also will resume, mainly along the eastbound side of the
highway where work will begin later this spring to construct two new
eastbound
lanes.
PennDOT began construction last spring on the first-of-two mainline
projects to
widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway)
from
U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in
Concord,
Bethel and Upper Chichester townships. Work on the first mainline section
of
U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the
eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park
Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction on this
section
is expected to start in 2019.
An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge
over
the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent

The right lane is scheduled to close on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim
Street and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchanges in Lower Pottsgrove,
Montgomery
County, from 9:00 AM Friday, April 6, to 5:00 PM Saturday, April 7, for
shoulder reconstruction as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S.
422
and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern
railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on eastbound U.S.

to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the

the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage;
erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future

$73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20

that will include milling and paving, drainage work as well as guiderail

sign operations.
This project will improve U.S. 1 by providing northbound motorists two
through
lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32, thereby removing the "exit
only"
lane that currently exists for northbound drivers at this interchange. In
addition, a concrete barrier will be placed between U.S. 1 north and the
on-ramp from U.S. 13 to eliminate the substandard weave condition that
currently exists when U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) drivers enter U.S. 1 and weave
through traffic to reach the Route 32 exit ramp.
The scope of work also includes construction of an additional auxiliary
lane
along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road; milling and overlay with a
high-friction surface treatment on U.S. 1 south in the area of Route 32;
and
replacement of overhead signs throughout the project area.

$2,327,110 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
