U.S. 422 East and West Lane Closures Next Week for Guide Rail and Paving Operations in Pottstown Area

​King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter lane closures next week in both directions between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for construction activities as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

The work schedule is:

  • Monday, August 27, and Thursday, August 30, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the left lane is scheduled to close on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges, for guide rail installation;
  • Tuesday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29, from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM, left and right lane closures are scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Keim Street interchanges, for paving; and
  • Tuesday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, left and right lane closures are scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for paving.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling in both directions on U.S. 422 through the work areas. The operations are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S. 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning ramps at the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish this fall.
