PennDOT Announces Regional Paint the Plow Contest Winner
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that a team of students from Unionville-Chadds Ford High School, Chester County has been selected as the PennDOT District 6 winner for the 2018 Paint the Plow contest.
Five Chester County high schools participated in this year's contest: Downingtown East; Octorara; Unionville-Chadds Ford; Conestoga; and West Chester East. Each participating school was delivered a PennDOT plow blade in early September to decorate incorporating the winter safety theme "Slow in the Snow".
In addition to the winter safety theme, students were encouraged to include patriotic, or weather-related themes, as well as their school's logo, emblem, or mascot into the design. In the end, it was Unionville High School's snowy farm scene that won the popular vote by getting the highest number of likes through a Facebook online voting campaign open to the public.
Paint the Plow is a statewide community outreach program in which students are invited to paint a PennDOT snow plow blade with original artwork to represent their individual school. In addition to being visible when in full service during the winter-weather months, the blades will be used within the school's community to enhance public awareness, promote safety, and foster greater appreciation of both PennDOT and the school's art program.
The Paint the Plow Project began in 2015 in District 9 and has since spread across the state. Since its start, this program had not been offered in District 6, with 2018 being its inaugural year, headed up by County Manager Bob Kennedy in Chester County.
