PennDOT to Begin Rehabilitation of Main Street Bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township, Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – Construction is scheduled to begin Friday, February 18, on a project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Main Street over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Due to the nature of the repairs, Main Street will be closed and detoured between Reformed Road and Pennhurst Road through the completion of the project scheduled for late June.
During the bridge closure, Main Street motorists will be directed to use Linfield Road, Route 724 (Schuylkill Road), Bridge Street, Main Street, and Lewis Road.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area because slowdowns will occur. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
As part of this bridge improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will remove and replace the existing parapet, bridge deck, sidewalk and protective fencing, as well as perform abutment repairs and pave bridge approaches.
Built in 1968, the single-span steel beam bridge is 117 feet long and 44 feet wide. The structure carries about of 5,681 vehicles a day.
The Main Street bridge is one of nine structures in Chester and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.
Structures completed under this project include:
- Route 611 over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
- Route 611 over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramp in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
- Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County
- Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County;

The other bridges in this rehabilitation project include:

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.
