U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Overnight Lane Closures at Two Locations Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Lane closures will be in place in two work zones on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between Ridge Avenue and 17th Street in Philadelphia on Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for various construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

  • Continuous northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) lane closures from north of Ridge Avenue to north of Fox Street for painting of the Fox Street overpass; and
  • Periodic northbound and/or southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) left lane closures from north of the Fox Street overpass to 17th Street for material deliveries and other activities on the half-mile-long Wayne Junction Viaduct over SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) through the work areas because slowdowns and backups will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The contractor is currently rehabilitating and repainting the structural components and placing new concrete pavement on the center section of the U.S. 1 viaduct and rehabilitating the Fox Street overpass.

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the $90.7 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in late 2022. For more information, visit www.us1wav.com.
