U.S. 422 West Lane Closure Next Week for Construction in Pottstown Area

King of Prussia, PA - Westbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter a right lane closure between the Sanatoga and Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) interchanges on Tuesday, August 14, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for various construction activities on a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 422 through the work area. All planned activities will be rescheduled in the event of rain. 

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S. 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning ramps at the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs. 

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish this fall.
