PennDOT to Rehabilitate the Bridge Carrying Johnson Highway over Sawmill Run Creek in East Norriton Township, Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin Monday, May 13, to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Johnson Highway over a branch of Sawmill Run Creek in East Norriton Township, Montgomery County.
PennDOT's contractor will rehabilitate the bridge by removing the existing superstructure and installing a new bridge deck, barrier and sidewalk; performing scour rock and stream repair; and paving bridge approaches.
Due to the nature of construction, Johnson Highway will be closed and detoured between Hills Drive and Rahway Avenue during the length of the rehabilitation project. Beginning Monday, May 13, through early October, Johnson Highway motorists will be directed to use U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike), Germantown Pike, and Arch Road/New Hope Street. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
Built in 1924, and reconstructed in 1966, the one-span bridge is 28 feet long and 55 feet wide. The structure carries an average of 9,096 vehicles a day.
The rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Johnson Highway over a branch of Sawmill Run Creek is part of PennDOT's $6.8 million project to rehabilitate six poor condition bridges in Bucks and Montgomery counties, three structurally-deficient culverts in Bucks County, and to stabilize a stream embankment at a bridge in Bucks County.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on the project that is financed with 100 percent state funds through Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
